2006 Pontiac Torrent 4dr SUV AWD (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Purchased this vehicle about 5 wks ago and have about 1000 mi. on it now. It replaced a 2004 Cadillac cts which is rear wheel drive. Even with traction control, it was useless when there was snow on the roads. Living in central New England, we need something that allows us to get to work in a storm. The Pontiac Torrent fills the bill in this area very nicely. It also is a nice looking vehicle that is fun to drive. Couldn't ask for much more.

Favorite Features

seat height, ride, instrumentation, exterior style, interior comfort

more efficient engine, privacy curtain for rear

2006 Pontiac Torrent 4dr SUV AWD (3.4L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Rides and handles very well with the stiffer, sport-tuned suspension. Spacious enough to be very comfortable for 5 adults and more than adequate storage. Plenty of pep under any condition to which I've exposed it. AWD performs admirably. Style-wise, it's been mistaken for a BMW. Great buy for the buck.

Favorite Features

Safety features, incl side curtains. Acceleration Cargo space

Suggested Improvements

More horsepower to emulate its Saturn Vue cousin and better gas mileage. There shouldn't be any problem squeezing out 30+ mpg. It's been done to the Impala.

This vehicle handles wonderfully, is spacious, great visibility, and looks quite handsome. A joy to ride with the added feeling of being safe. I have already recommended this vehicle to friends and family.

air vents for the back seat, power passenger seat

Review

I wasn't interested in an SUV until I test drove a Torrent. I was very impressed on how it handled, and how enjoyable it was to drive. The interior also caught my eye with the great amount of leg room in the back.

Favorite Features

Comfortable drives seat. Love the lumbar support that comes with the driver's power seat. Good visability. A really good "driving" car.

Suggested Improvements

Better ease of using wiper stalk. Not sure I totally like having the ahift postions not displayed by the gauges

I love, love, love the Torrent. It is comfortable enough for long rides and roomy enough for a back seat full of grown adults. I am looking forward to using the sunroof and listening the the pioneer radio very loud!

Favorite Features

Stereo controls on steering wheel and power seat

Suggested Improvements

Larger fuel tank and power passenger seat would be great.

The Torrent is an outstanding vehicle. The styling is second to none with plenty of power and great handling. The interior is very well laid out and stylish. Drive 75 plus miles per day and the Torrent handles well and is very comfortable. Handles very well with the AWD. Quality of the vehicle is excellent. GM definitley got this one right.

Favorite Features

Oustanding styling, Radio controls on the steering wheel and the Onstar is great to have.

Review

The Torrent has been great so far. I was in fear that the engine would not be enough, but unless your into drag racing your family SUV I don't think you'll have much to worry about. A lot of people complain about the steering but I drive 80 miles a day and its not an issue with me...rather pleasant. The comfort level is tremendous. Love it.

Favorite Features

The red gauges are cool at night. The back seat is a 60/40 split that adjust aft and fro and reclines a bit which is nice. Lots of nooks and crannies.

Suggested Improvements

Bigger engine with better gas mileage. More up front electrical outlets (although there are 3 all together, only 1 is in the front and its on the floor below the console). Pontiac shouldn't package the side air bags with Onstar at a cost of > $1,000. Wish DVD entertainment system was an option.

A very efficient SUV at an affordable price makes this a great buy. With the Sun and Sound Package this SUV becomes very trendy for younger buyers such as myself. Will be a great commodity for traveling.

Favorite Features

Sun and Sound Package which includes a subwoofer and amplifier

Suggested Improvements

Rear seats are a little hard. Feels like a very tight trampoline.

Review

Wife and I purchased an 06 fwd torrent as her daily driver. we traded in our 1998 olds intrigue with 114,000 miles, was a great car. we got the preferred package,17" alloy wheels and the security package. black with ebony cloth interior. we drove an 05 rendezvous and the torrent is more comfortable, stable, quieter and easier to get in and out of. first tank of gas got 21 mpg over some hilly terrain. the rear leg room is great and all the seats are comfortable. it has only 400 miles on the odometer but the engine has plenty of power and is very quiet.

Favorite Features

sliding rear seat, doors that open wide. very little wind noise. chairlike seating position. red lit guages.

Suggested Improvements

would prefer 4 wheel disc brakes. i don't care for the adjustable steering column, would prefer pontiac use the "comfort tilt" column out of the current silverado pickups. put the gas cap on the driver's side.

Review

Great little vehicle. We went from a Jetta Wagon to the Torrent AWD (Bright White with Ebony Leather)- Sporty! Please bear in mind that we just bought this vehicle yesterday and already have ~250 miles on it.

Favorite Features

Leather, Heated seats, Sun-roof, Stereo, AWD, ride height, XM radio, 17 X 7 wheels are way cool

Suggested Improvements

Wiper controls should be easier to find and operate, add grab handles, should be all-power seats (driver and front passenger), needs privacy pull-out shade for cargo area as we didn't want the shelf option.
