I have an '05 M6 with 21K. There is not a day that goes by that this car isn't driven hard. It is just too tempting. It has seen some track time as well. My only mods have been bolt-ons (headers, cai and exhaust), and along with a tune, produced 387/383 at the rear wheels. I did have the strut rub problem, but this seemed to be fixed by 0* camber ... Mine is also an '06 with the 6 litre LS2. I have about 13,500 on it and it is still just like new. It is totally stock unless you consider a K&N air filter making it non-stock. Absolutely keep your eye out. There are some good deals out there, but the prices are going up a little (as far as I can tell). At about April/May they could be had for about $17k with ~30k on the odo. Now, one with the same mileage would be about $18-19k. I appreciate the feedback and a person repainting the insert is an option and then there is the case that a GTO that could've been in an accident can be repaired to exterior factory specs. I'd rather have the standard factory appearance and take care of changes myself. In the end I passed on that GTO. Keeping my eyes open for the right one.

Some people have painted that rear insert. You are correct in that none came painted from the factory. If you are looking at one that has been painted, don't just assume it was repaired. Some people just like the painted insert look (not me, however) and that owner may have been one of them.

good question, ssguy69. go over to ls1gto site and look for some pictures and maybe that will tell you the answer? my 05 was indeed repaired (cyclone grey) and i elected to have the aussie rear-bumper-bottom-cover installed instead. it is black and does not say G T O . also it has a square thing in the middle, a little doorway thing that maybe is there to accomodate a trailer-hitch. ? ... Does anyone know if the GTO imprinted trim (at the bottom of the rear bumper that wraps/integrates with the exhaust pipes) get matching body color treatment for 2005/2006? I don't think so, no matter what color as I recall it being a contrasting black color with the GTO imprint. Have any GM dealer pull the GMVIS report. Look for the section saying "Vehicle Has No Current Record Of Outstanding Campaigns" - if so, you're great. If it has a Yxxxx code and says something about strut replacement, yet there's nothing in the "Claim History" section showing both struts replaced, you need to get that done (dealers were supposed to proactively replace struts on vehicles in inventory, that program ended 2/28/2007, ... There were no "fixes" applied for 2005 and 2006 model years relating to "strut rub". They may have paid closer attention to alignment (including cradle alignment) from the factory, but any 2004-2006 GTO equipped with the factory 17" wheels, and 245 width tires, is at risk of having its tires impact the struts. As I said, I still like the GTO. It actually handles pretty good, now that it has FUNCTIONING FRONT STRUTS! The handling of the defective struts issue by the dealer, Pontiac, and GM is completely unacceptable. My 04 has had perfect reliability. The 06 failing front strut issue has been readily known about for months and is a simple(albeit inconvient)issue to repair. It sounds more like you've had a difficult dealer to deal with then a true GM/GTO issue. Federal law mandates an auto maker MUST provide all parts for a given vehicle for at least 10 yrs. This was due to a supplier change (Monroe Australia changed the strut oil from Shell to something else, and this caused the struts to fail/leak/damage the bushings, undercoating, brakes, et. al.). Just found this discussion. The problem was that Monroe Australia changed strut oil from Shell to something else. Factor in the GTO being built in Australia, and taking upwards of 3 months from assembly to arrive at dealerships, and this problem did not become known. GM announced today Feb 21/06 that the GTO will not continue on with a new platform for 2007. Cars will be produced until June and available up until Sept. Pontiac dealers are being notified that the GTO is finished.

Interesting that your list does not include the "illuminated steering wheel radio controls" line item that I found on the media.gm.com website here: http://media.gm.com/us/pontiac/en/product_services/r_cars/r_c_gto/index.html And, the list at that website does not mention the "Extra power outlet under radio" nor the "Faster seat motor" items you mentioned. My 2005 Mustang was Lemon Lawed. Got all my $$ back. Fuel Tank and Shaker radio was fixed. Window problems fixed, Electrical problems and rattles that couldn't be fixed on 5 tries. Still there. I read the MT article. Ultimately they liked the Mercedes a lot better but it was double the price. The main criticism I have read of the GTO is the handling isn't razor sharp. Maybe they can improve this in 2006. However with 400 hp they should sell a lot. My family has been buying Pontiac's for years, never had any problems with any of them.
