I appreciate the feedback and a person repainting the insert is an option and then there is the case that a GTO that could've been in an accident can be repaired to exterior factory specs. I'd rather have the standard factory appearance and take care of changes myself. In the end I passed on that GTO. Keeping my eyes open for the right one.

Some people have painted that rear insert. You are correct in that none came painted from the factory. If you are looking at one that has been painted, don't just assume it was repaired. Some people just like the painted insert look (not me, however) and that owner may have been one of them.

There were no "fixes" applied for 2005 and 2006 model years relating to "strut rub". They may have paid closer attention to alignment (including cradle alignment) from the factory, but any 2004-2006 GTO equipped with the factory 17" wheels, and 245 width tires, is at risk of having its tires impact the struts. GM Sales Results 865 retail sales in July (6th through August 1), after the car was removed from the Employee Price For Everyone plan. There are currently 2066 GTO's in inventory (versus 1750 at the start of the month). Amazingly, 168 of those are still 2004 models. The last batch of 2005's have left Australia (they're on one or two boats, not sure) and should arrive in Benecia, CA sometime this ... Read More

GM's new rear-drive Zeta platform will make its debut in Australia in April 2006 with the launch of the all-new Holden Commodore sedan and Monaro coupe. But the versatile Zeta--which will be built in long-wheelbase form for Holden's upscale Statesman and also with all-wheel drive for its crossover and pickup models--also is scheduled to spawn a bunch of American GM cars ... hi folks. i bought my GTO at the end of June and put about 1000 miles on it before driving cross-country in another car (volksy TDI). gray. 6-speed. 17" wheels. seems like the CAGS is programmed differently than i was used to from my M6 Z28s. or maybe i'm just so used to short-shifting into 2nd that CAGS never kicks in. i've actually tried to make CAGS happen, but have only ... My 2005 Mustang was Lemon Lawed. Got all my $$ back. Fuel Tank and Shaker radio was fixed. Window problems fixed, Electrical problems and rattles that couldn't be fixed on 5 tries. Still there. Very nice car, but enough was enough. It was in the dealer more then I had it. Apparently I'm not the only one based on some of the comments I have read on the Mustang Problems and ... Read More

Hey graphicguy. I hope I don't draw the ire of the hosts, but I have to point out a number of incorrect facts, assumptions and mis-statements in your posts. I follow another GTO-related site pretty well, and there are some Pontiac insiders who post there. Pontiac GTO: Heavy incentives by the end of its' first year on the market! GM begs its loyalists with unheard of additional incentives for GM credit card holders. Even this won't help them meet their sales goals, and many 2004 models sit unloved on dealers' lots well into 2005. Ford Mustang: No sign of discounts, not to mention incentives! Quite the contrary, most dealers will not even honor the employee or ... Read More

The Pontiac Solstice was first shown as a concept at the 2002 Detroit auto show in Jan, 2002. It was shown at the 2004 Detroit auto show in production form. Here is the 2004 Pontiac GTO Ram Air 6. I read the MT article. Ultimately they liked the Mercedes a lot better but it was double the price. The main criticism I have read of the GTO is the handling isn't razor sharp. Maybe they can improve this in 2006. However with 400 hp they should sell a lot. My family has been buying Pontiac's for years, never had any problems with any of them. Wouldn't buy another Ford after ... Read More
