I have a 2005 Pontiac GTO with 70,000 miles on it. Only problems I have had are tire issues which I have seen are due to struts now and my car eating batteries. But other then that it has been a great car! But here's my problem now. Back in February I was sitting in traffic and then my car said it was overheating so I pulled over. No smell of ... Read More

I have never driven my Goat very hard at all. In fact, the dealer has commented on how I don't. But I can tell from the feel of it that it can handle whatever. Just as I felt about the Trans Am, I see this as the 4 seater 'Vette. And at 10k less and running essentially the identical power train, it makes a lot more sense. What I don't understand ... I have an '05 M6 with 21K. There is not a day that goes by that this car isn't driven hard. It is just too tempting. It has seen some track time as well. I have just been reading here of some negative comments regarding the 2004-2006 GTO. I bought a 2006 in September of '06 and have nothing but rave reviews from my own experience. Yeah, I had to have the front struts replaced and there have been little things that I have asked the dealer to do, but that is mostly due to how picky I am about ANY car I own. I ... Read More

We all value your opinion... Guys.....Have this engine noise....goes /comes...think it is lifter tap? piston slap? Anyone having such noise?? 2005 GTO 18,000 miles. What does this mean? what can be done? What type of test should I ask the Dealer for? Thanks Guys? PONTIAC MADE A BIG MISTAKE IN LETTING THIS CAR DIE!
There were no "fixes" applied for 2005 and 2006 model years relating to "strut rub". They may have paid closer attention to alignment (including cradle alignment) from the factory, but any 2004-2006 GTO equipped with the factory 17" wheels, and 245 width tires, is at risk of having its tires impact the struts. As posted elsewhere, this is likely due to alignment issues which may be exacerbated by blown factory radius ... Read More

I was just quoted 28100 on a Leftover 2005 6-speed, plus a 1000 discount for owning a non-GM car, to make the final price 27100. What do you think a leftover 2005 is worth October, 2006? I'm also thinking about holding out to see if Pontiac is going to offer 0% on remaining 2006's. Advise please!!!
As I said, I still like the GTO. It actually handles pretty good, now that it has FUNCTIONING FRONT STRUTS! The GTO will run on 87+ octane with no problems. I've called Pontiac over a year ago when I first got my car. They directed me to my owners manual which concurred. You are correct, because of lack of GTO sales in 2004 GM reduced production from 18k cars to 12k cars for 2005. It's kind of hard to sell a car that you don't promote or advertise. They can only make 12k per year. At the current sales pace, they would sell more than they can make in a year. At this pace they will be sold out before the 2006's make it to dealers in quantity. Hey graphicguy. I hope I don't draw the ire of the hosts, but I have to point out a number of incorrect facts, assumptions and mis-statements in your posts. I follow another GTO-related site pretty well, and there are some Pontiac insiders who post there. Here are some facts posted there (site has forums so Edmunds won't let me directly link to it): 1) Holden WANTED to make 18k cars for ... Read More
Dieselone writes.......This debate will be over in year or two anyway when the current imposter GTO is either dropped or replaced by a car worthy of the GTO name. ...... Since when is the current GTO an impostor or not worthy of the GTO name? LOL!? What do you think the original 1964 GTO was? it was a performance OPTION on the 1964 Pontiac Lemans A body 2 dr coupe with ... Read More
Car and driver tested the 2005 GTO manual 6 at 4.8 seconds 0-60. Pontiac claims 4.7 for the M6, pretty close! Don't forget that the Automatic 4 on the GTO is actually faster 0-60 by 1/10th. All the magazines have only tested M6 GTo's. another reason I bought automatic faster and no shifting. Esp in the traffic around here.
I believe Motor Trend just tested a 2005 Mustang GT with a Vortech supercharger that was making 410 horsepower. Guess what? The 0-60 and 1/4 mile time were not much faster then a stock GTO. Here were the test results from the magazine for the Votech GT 410hp Vortech Mustang GT from Motor Trend 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds 1/4 mile 13 seconds at 108.5 mph 400hp GTO STOCK!! From Pontiac/GM Brochure ... Read More
http://www.havican.com/GTO/ 2004 GTOproductionfigures For the 2004 GTO it was pretty much a 50/50 split on Auto vs manual shift. 53.8% were Manual shift and 46.1% were automatic shift. there was 15,728 total sold for 2004l. 8,466 were 6spd manual and 7,262 were 4spd auto. I am an enthusiast but opted for the 4spd auto, Pontiacs brochure says the Auto is 1/10th faster then Manual 0-60 and 1/4 mile. City gas mileage ... Read More
As for sales of GTO, my dealer had 3 when I bought mine, all 3 sold the same week I bought mine which was about 3 weeks ago. The dealer said they will NOT get anymore GTO's in until June. Not bad for a car that supposedly doesn't sell, LOL! Right now they are trying to locate 2 for 2 dif customers that want to buy, but they don't have any. ... Read More
Graphicguy wrote...... This isn't just an indictment of the GTO, but all of Pontiac. It's almost like they stopped designing anything after 1997....just reworking the same thing from '97 on (and that design isn't one I'd want to emulate as a classic, by any stretch). ....... As they say, to each their own... But at least Pontiac didn't take a 37 yr old design and pass it as new with the ... Read More
Pontiac GTO: Heavy incentives by the end of its' first year on the market! GM begs its loyalists with unheard of additional incentives for GM credit card holders. Even this won't help them meet their sales goals, and many 2004 models sit unloved on dealers' lots well into 2005. Ford Mustang: No sign of discounts, not to mention incentives! Quite the contrary, most dealers will not even honor the employee or ... Read More

http://www.gmbuypower.com click on Pontiac, then GTO. At some point there is a pop-up that defaults to 2005 - but you can click on it and select 2004. Be aware most of the 900-some odd '05's left are mostly A4 cars. Expect to pay invoice price less the $5k buyout less any current incentives (i.e. last month was $1k March Madness on cars older than 120 days on the lot - I ... Read More
I meant to say that the 2006 Corvette Z06 will have dry-sump lubrication. That LS7 is awesome! The Pontiac GTO is scheduled to debut in Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen race on June 12 in the Grand American Rolex Sports car series so it would race against Porsche GT3 Cup cars Here is the 2005 GTO which has larger brakes, 400 hp LS2, a new power steering pump, and some ... You do need to shop around. Went to one dealer in MA this Saturday that wanted to sell me a car w/150 miles of test drives. They were great and let me drive the car w/no problems. I was serious about buying the car and wanted to deal but they wanted too much money. Sales people were great but the sales manager didn't want to budge. He told me the car ... Read More
Pontiac sold 1375 GTO's last month, with the only incentive being the $1k "March Madness" which did not apply to any 2005's (cars had to be on the lots I think 120 days). I don't know the breakdown of '04's and '05's, but, at only 12k/yr, and March still being a bad weather month for half of the U.S., I wouldn't be so sure that we'll see much in the way ... Read More
Thought that I would share my Goat hunting adventure just in case it gives someone else some hints. I wanted only a particular combo: ‘05 Quicksilver/Red with 6-speed. Got on pontiac.com and used the “Locate Vehicle” feature to search all dealerships within a comfortable day’s round trip from home. Only found 3 such cars to my spec, 2 about 3 hours away, and 1 about 5 hours away. Then used the ... Read More
I have not, but have read of others doing so. It's fairly common to pay $500 over invoice. I see you're on Long Island - contact Arnold Pontiac, as they are advertising on another site that they have 10 2005's and are willing to sell for $500 over invoice (invoice is around $31,200, add the $500, then any advertising/dealer services fees, and tax/title/license fees).
Yes, only the A4 gets the guzzler tax, and the '05 (LS2) gets a $300 increase over the '04 (LS1) in the guzzler tax. If only we had a 6-speed auto... The coupe Vette is 3179 pounds and its LS2-powered A4 is rated at 18/26. The GTO is 3725 pounds and its LS2-powered A4 is rated at 16/21 - same as the LS1-powered A4 2004. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2004_Pontiac_GTO.shtml http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2005_Pontiac_GTO.shtml --Robert
Contact both Arnold Pontiac in West Babylon and Sun Pontiac in Wantaugh and make your best deal. My car=2005 gto with 6 speed@32118 from Arnold. Another guy said=2005 gto with auto trans@32500 from Sun Pontiac.
Others on another discussion board have reported the same "can't get into reverse" issue. Lots of folks have made it custom to put the car into 3rd and then shift into reverse. Others have switched to Redline D4 tranny fluid. Some others have found there's a TSB (04-07-31-003) on pressure plate bolts (cars with VINs lower than 4L234149) which helps the problem. And some say there's a new-design shifter (to avoid ... Read More
