They may have paid closer attention to alignment (including cradle alignment) from the factory, but any 2004-2006 GTO equipped with the factory 17" wheels, and 245 width tires, is at risk of having its tires impact the struts.     The brochure I have is black, with a close-up of the GTO front grill on the cover and it says 2004 in the lower right corner. The air bag info is on the last page (the inside of the back cover). Have you tried calling Pontiac customer service? I'm sure the dealers are clueless.

    Yes in Motor Trends May 2004 article they compared the then 350hp 2004 GTO to the 2004 Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG. The Pontiac or I should say Holden held it's own, did very well.     You are correct, because of lack of GTO sales in 2004 GM reduced production from 18k cars to 12k cars for 2005. It's kind of hard to sell a car that you don't promote or advertise. That said the GTO is selling much better this year then last year. In my area the 3 pontiac dealers don't have any 2004 or 2005 on their lots.

    It's fun to keep up with or out run $70k CLK AMG 55's. Motor Trend did a head to head comparo with 2004 GTO vs 2004 AMG. Benz is the better car, but the Pontiac, "holden" did very well against it for less then half the price.

    Hmmm.... appears you can't use the Vehicle Locator on the Pontiac website, nor the gmbuypower website to search for a 2004 GTO.... buypower only gives Oldsmobile as a choice for 2004, and Vehicle Locator on Pontiac.com only gives 2005 as selection choice.     Sadly the '04 auto has poor low end torque although not as low as yours sounds. You should easily be able to smoke'm off the line. I drove several autos and they were awsome cars.     lhess - different strokes for different folks. It's the stealth look that appeals to me about the 2004 - the less attention grabbing the better. I always thought Pontiacs looked idiotic with the tacked on plastic scoops, spoilers clown noses, side louvres, etc. You definitely shouldn't let your bad experiences with Pontiac mechanical quality cloud your view of the GTO - it's not designed or built by Pontiac.

    Frankly, the paint on these cars sucks. I barely got to drive my GTO (2500 miles in about month and a half of driving, spread out over 3 months) and I had a half-dozen stone chips on the hood.     Through July the 2004 GTO had sold over 4,600 units. According to reports they are on track for a 1,100 unit month in August, but there are a lot more net posts recently from new GTO buyers. A Chicago Tribune article quoted the head of Pontiac as saying 2005 GTO would be $1,000 to $1,500 more then the 2004. So $34,999 could be the winner.

    I expect that the remaining 2004's will get some discounts and incentives to move them out. Even with the upgrades I wouldn't expect Pontiac to raise the price of the 2005 much.     I think the long lead times, as long as 5 months from production acceptance to arrival, is one of the reasons the 2004 was offered with no options other then trans & color. That theory would again lead me to believe that 2005 should be simular.     Hmmmm. Today info was posted about 2005 GTO pilot cars going down the Holden assembly line. I am speculating that we might very well see shortened 2004 production and earlier 2005 production. The 2005 will have hood scoops and dual exhaust and possibly an LS2 engine. I think it is a very real possibility that Pontiac wants to end 2004 production early and get on with the improvements.

When you look at the past 5 years and at all of GM's marques, GM has NOT been at the forefront of passive safety equipment, esp. side airbags and pretensioners.
