Summary

What Edmunds.com says

A viable import alternative, but don't expect Camry- or Accord-like resale values or build quality.

Pros

Lots of standard features, roomy interior, crisp handling.

Cons

Five-speed manual no longer available, cheap interior pieces, iffy crash test scores.

What's New for 2005

The sedan has been dropped from the lineup along with the base four-cylinder engine and the manual transmission.

Review

I bought this 2004 Grand Am after reading many reviews that stated that it was a good buy. After owning this car for 2.5 years, I can say that I am very unhappy with this vehicle. The first 8 months were fine, but then it was problem after problem. Check engine light, poor performance, guages and knobs falling off. Never again.

Favorite Features

I do however like the inside interior design.

Suggested Improvements

Too many to list. Very poor quality design and execution.

Review

As with any other Pontiac I have owned I am well pleased. It's a hot looking car and the one I have has leather and all the bells and whistles on the inside. Gas mileage is surprisingly good and it's pretty fast on the get go. No creaks or rattles and the sound system is good. Great little sporty ride.

Favorite Features

Exterior looks, interior features, gas mileage, acceleration.

Suggested Improvements

They don't make these anymore but, if they would have made a convertable, it could have competed with the Mustang for looks.

LOVE IT! I bought this car brand new so i've had it for about 3 yrs. NOTHING has gone wrong. Haven't had to fix anything!! Just your typical oil change and brake change. Oh, and had to change the bulb in one of the headlights. NOTHING at all to fix as far as the engine is concerned. A little loud on the hwy but nothing to complain about.

Favorite Features

Design, gas mileage, horsepower, Audio system, just about everything! :)

Well, this is my first car in my life. I have had it for a day, but oh my, is it awesome. It looks GREAT at night! It accelerates very well, and you feel really sporty in it. Sound is great from engine and also stereo sound is good. Definite buy.

Favorite Features

Red digital displays, especially at night. Stability. Acceleration!

Suggested Improvements

Maybe add a bit more room for the cup holders in front of the climate controls.

Review

I traded in a '03 Saturn for my Grand Am. I was in tears a month after my trade. The car inside is smaller than my little Saturn, the doors curve so it is hard to fit things in the back seat that you can't fit in the trunk because the opening to the trunk is too small. The seats are not the most comfortable for road trips. It is a lot of plastic on the inside and just make me think of a cheap Matchbox car the more I have to drive it. The starter sticks more often than not and after purchasing the vehicle, I found out that this is a very common problem for the Grand Ams.

Favorite Features

Lights on rear view mirrors and the glove box is big.

Suggested Improvements

Larger trunk opening more leg room in the back seat. Opening to the trunk from inside and fix the dang starters!
