I've read this and heard this from those who work on cars that the 4 cyl motors are not very good. i heard many issues, but their v6 motors are very good. case and point: my 1994 grand am is a 3.1L v6 and I'm running on 205,000+ miles on it and it runs like i just bought a brand new car(it also still has the great pep it had when it was new) if your looking for 1998-2002, you really ... My daughter has a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am with the 3100 V6 and it has 87K miles on it. 1st the temp gage does not work properly...it stays pegged at the bottom except occasionally, when coming to a stop the needle will jump up and drop. I had the same thing going on...I had rear brakes put on 2 or 3 yrs ago, from that time on, the ABS light came off and on and the ETF (?) light was off...and occasional the traction light said no traction...kept going off and on now for that time frame....I had the tires rotated and balanced this last time, I had to replace front brakes, and the lights still came off and ... Just re-posting under Pontiac to get user reactions Have a Pontiac Grand Am 1999 - 122k miles. The service engine light comes on occasionally .. then dashboard stops and power window stops as well. Hey, Grand Am owners--I have a question for you. How old are you guys? The reason I ask is that we are looking for a new car. With 3 kids--but we have a mini van for family hauling, so this car will almost never have to haul them all around--we need to look at mid size sedans. We have an opportunity to purchase a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am GT, it has a 2.4 liter, 4 cylinder engine, 2000 original miles, It is sharp, looks and smells like new.
