Bought as my first car. It was ok for the first year. Then, things started going wrong. The first thing was my headlight switch broke. That was $130. Then the headlights went out. Another $100. Then the brakes needed replaced. So there went another $80. The windshield ALWAYS leaks when it rains and my floor always looks like a lake. The transmission started slipping. Everything leaks (i.e. transmission fluid, oil). It overheats when i am idle. Now it needs a new booster for the brakes. And i always had problems with the ABS warning light. I will never have another!
Favorite Features
Gas mileage.
Suggested Improvements
Brakes need to be more reliable. Fix the ABS sensor. Fix the leaking at the windshield.
Great Grand Am

Bought the V6, automatic coupe as a lease-return in 1996. Has been very reliable, never left me stranded, no major issues. IMO, still one of the best looking cars out there! Good straight line performance. Door panels starting to crack around screws (hard plastic and -40C do not mix!), some rust starting around wheel wells. Starts in -40C weather without being plugged in (do not recommend!) Will hate to see it go, but the family is expanding so it's days are numbered!
Favorite Features
Looks, performance, fuel economy (30+ mpg hwy), reliability, ABS, factory fog lights, lots of storage compartments.
Suggested Improvements
Seats lack any lumbar support, hard, very low to ground (hard for pregnant wife to get in and out of!), no passenger air bag, brake feel has always been mushy, not a performer around corners.

Review
I love my grand am I bought it new and drove it for eleven years never had any thing go wrong with it . great gas mileage, I gave it to my daughter this year and bought a new one. I changed the oil as to the manufacture and had all the maintenance done that is suggested. I replaced the tires at 75,000 miles. This car was made to last. It has good get up and go for a four banger.
Favorite Features

the lighter in the ash tray when I charged my cell phone I forgot to replace it and a penny went down in it and shorted it out.

Bought this car with 93,000 miles on it. It now has 102,000 on it my husband drives it 4 hours a day back and forth to work.4 times a week. So far so good. the only problem's with it is: a leaky valve cover, and the fuse to the power locks just blew. Nothing big, both easy fixes. and the air conditioner needs charged.
Favorite Features
I like the reliability and it has good get up and go. i also like the way they designed the cup holder, i wish they did thet with more cars.
Suggested Improvements
power door locks that lock on their own, can be a pain sometimes. e-break hard to release. seatbelts are uncomfortable at the neck for shorter drivers.

This was my first car. I drove it for three years before I decided to get an SUV. There were never any problems other than something with the ABS. Tires wore great after all the miles. Held up great. Every time I cleaned it, it looked NEW! Motor was extremely quiet and dependable. Got tons of looks back then!
Favorite Features
Body, V6 engine.

Make 'em like you did in '95!!!

Hi, I bought my 95 Grand Am back in 97, with 15,000 miles and was very pleased with the style of the car and the gas mileage. I routinely got 34mpg on the highway. The only thing that was bad about the car was the engine. I replaced the head gasket 2 times and after the 3rd I decided it was "3 strikes You're OUT" and junked it at 150,000 miles in July of 94. The body still looked like new, and everything else was in great mechanical shape. The first time the headgasket went it was under warranty, but #2 cost me $1,000 and I was told #3 was going to be more.

This car really seems like it could run forever. It's a 3.1L V6 automatic. It runs pretty well still, and can even provide a little excitement when accelerating. Overall even after all these years it has had no real major problems engine, or transmission related. However, a new transmission/ tune-up/ allignment/ tires would help bring this baby back to superb quality. Other than a few minor replacements here and there, i still know that i can count on this car for just about anything. Problem is that with the ridiculously low resale now, there's no use in even attempting to fix her up. Its kinda sad, but I'm gonna have to get a new car next time she has a minor problem over 400 bucks.
Favorite Features
I like the way that this car seems like its invinsible and will always run. It provides pretty good get up still with its V-6. The exterior after all these years, no wax at all can still sparkle. Its funny, but after a wash she really still looks like new and drives a bit better too afterwards :)
Suggested Improvements
The only bad thing about this car is the brakes seem to go bare about once every year and a half. Also, being that its gone 143000 miles, its in dire need of a new transmission. It struggles sometimes getting into its 2nd and 3rd gears. The interior buttons etc. had problems with wear and tear.

What's up with the radiator
Vehicle
1995 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan
Review
When we got this car it had 300,000 miles on it. It had set under a tarp in a garage for the past 3 years. Within a month I had to replace two tires. Within two months I had to put in the shop for almost two weeks for radiator problems. Major overheating especially in slow traffic and while idling. Shop changed three or four things and cleaned out radiator. It's still overeheating. Also we have water coming into the car from under the dash especially when raining. Windshield was replaced; didn't help. Now we;ve lost two window motors. It gets me from A to B and gas mileage is great but I'll never have another. It's not worth the $2200.00 I have to pay.
Favorite Features
Gas Mileage. and trunk space.
Suggested Improvements
Make the radiator bigger, add some cup holders for the back seat.
