A few things to check would be the alternator, check your fuse panel under the hood and in the cabin of the car. Also check your fuel rail to make sure you ... Read More

I had a similar problem on my 1999 GP. The deale,r after several days of checking things out, replaced the crankshaft positioning sensor and the problem went away. The other thing you may keep in mind is the mass airflow sensor. The part is around $150, it is a 5 minute job. Mass air flow sensor throws a diagnostic code. The crankshaft sensor didn't. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I will contact my Pontiac dealer about the part. Would that resistor board going bad cause that horrendous smell? I was able to switch the fan control to level 4 (5 is MAX) and it would squeal like crazy. I was only able to do that once or twice almost immediately after the 'smell'. Now, nothing.

I don't have a Grand Prix anymore, but if I recall correctly the resistor board is a pretty easy swap - it's right under the glovebox, under the passenger-side dash. The part should between $18-$25. I would imagine any decent Pontiac parts department (not that many around - good luck) would have the part. Since this board is the problem 90+% of the time the blower motor doesn't work on all ... Read More

On 10/30/2005, my daughter drove my 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix about 11 miles away to the grocery store. Parked the vehicle and went into the store. Approximately 15 minutes later the fire dept. showed up to put out the car fire! While sitting in the parking lot, it caught fire from under the hood. The insurance company has rendered it a total loss, with no explanation as to what could have ... Read More

It was a happy day yesterday, I got rid of the worst car I have had over the last 25 years - a 2004 Pontiac GTP. More creaking, popping, whinning noises from the body, steering, and interior than any car I have ever had. The dealer could.not fix all the problems though he tried. No more GM cars for me - EVER. I had 15000 miles and 2 years of misery with ... Read More

That's the review I read, and I still didn't see anything about it being "a decade behind the competition". In fact, that is one of the more negative reviews on the car I have seen. Here is a small part of one from a writer that liked the car: "A 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix GT sedan has been a regular in my driveway going on five years now - driven by ... Read More

<<Because of an aging product line and consumers' affinities for sport utility vehicles, Pontiac's sales have fallen from 616,000 in 1999 to 517,000 in 2000, their sales fell another 13% from 2002 to 2003, not sure on the sale figures, just the percent.>> <<. My son's 1999 Grand Prix recently suffered a catastrophic engine failure. All he noticed was a slight loss of power before the engine seized. It would not crank and was towed to the nearest Pontiac dealer. This dealer did not have time to even look at the car and suggested we leave it with them for 2 weeks and they would try to get around to it(I'm serious). So we had ... Read More

I have a 1999 Grand Prix SE which is now taking on water during rainstorms. I previously had a 15 year old car with this problem, but this car is 4 years old! The water is leaking in on the front passenger side floor, coming down the slanted foot rest (whatever it's called). What could have happened? Is this easily fixable? Whatever the outcome, it's GOODBYE PONTIAC.

I echo Yurakm comments in regards to the Impala LS. If you are considering the Pontiac GP GT sedan, it would be worth it to test drive the Impala LS. The Impala LS's engine and transmission are identical to the GP GT (3800 series II V-6, 200 HP and the 4T65-E 4 speed auto). However, for family hauling chores the Impala LS is a bit better suited for the job. The ... Read More
