Can you tell me please how to locate the camshaft position sensor on my Pontiac Grand AM with 3.6 v6 engine. I replaced the one on the engine up between the engine and trans. (fire wall side) But i am sure that was the crankshaft position sensor. Please help me locate the sensor. Thank you in advance. Have fun today.
The wiring is the same for the following cars: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am I am informed by someone who did the mod on a 2000 Saturn that there are slight differences in the wiring. The colors of the wires are different, as follows: Grand Am . | Saturn Yellow . . . . | Yellow Black . . . ... Read More
To the customer service folks on her. This is being written about on every Pontiac forum i have found. There are many, many folks having this problem. My car is a 2004 Pontiac Grand AM with the 3.4 v6 engine/auto trans. It is throwing a po122 code which is throttle position sensor. I have changed that and still get the code. I have also changed the trans filter/fluid, the fuel filter, ... Read More
Yes, you can use the non-solder fix. The wiring is exactly the same in the two vehicles. It states at the beginning of my article that this fix applies to the following vehicles: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am These are all Passlock II systems. If you are able to find the wiring bundle with three wires in it, and you ... Read More
The link you furnished is a good reference for many of the GM vehicles listed, however, it only pertains to vehicles that have a separate Anti-theft module. On these cars: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am The body control module contains the circuitry and brains for the anti-theft system, so the fix for the system is different. On the other hand, ... Read More
That's strange. Can you tell where it's leaking from?
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am and I have recently noticed that it is leaking transmission fluid in reverse only and only when in reverse for an extended period of time. I am wondering what the issue could be and approximately how much I'm looking at spending to resolve this issue. Thanks for any feedback...
How to remove the steering wheel cover from a 2004 pontiac grand am.
I was having brake problems with my 2004 grand am. After I changed the brakes, they would wear out on the outside of the passenger side. I changed the caliper and the pads. Still didn't fix it. I changed the brake hose and bled the brakes. Still had wear on the brakes. I brought my car into a few mechanics and they couldn't figure it out. Finally at Brakeway in Louisville, ... Read More
Mike4ujc, Disconnect the battery cables from the battery. Clean the terminals on both the cables and the battery, and then re-connect them. If that doesn't help, then disconnect the cables at the other ends, clean, and re-connect. A poor connection often causes this problem. It takes only a couple of amps to run the radio, but over 100 amps to crank the engine, so poor connections are a common cause of ... Read More
While driving my 2004 Pontiac Grand AM GT it died as if it was out of gas. Initially it acted like it had slipped into neutral not moving forward but running so I downshifted it started moving again and then just died. towguy609, You need a service manual in order to figure out whether the resistor fix will work on your vehicle. But here is one thing you can check. Look at the side of your key. Is there a little "+" sign on the side of it, stamped in the metal just below the black handle? There probably is, since GM switched over to these security keys on most vehicles in 2004. ... I have the same damn problem. The turn signals work when they want to. They is no rhyme or reason for them to start working and stop working. It just does it when it wants to. When you find out the answer, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! Yes, it's very dangerous and frustrating!
My daughter has 2004 Grand AM and it didn't start several times with the security light blinking but worked after "10 minute reset". The security light is constantly on lately but the cars starts OK. Does it mean that the contact of yellow wire is broken? Will it start after I change the battery - I think that "cut the yellow wire" solution requires to connect it before changing the battery. ... I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am...and it has went crazy on me. The crazy thing will start and it will change gears, but when you turn the steering wheel it dies. Anyone have any ideas what's going on with it?
I havent tried putting my car in neutral to get it to start when I had Passlock/security key issues. Look in the Passlock/Security forum on here. It should explain to put the key in the ON position for no less than like 12 min (which lets the car relearn your keycode). Eventually if that doesnt work try 1 hour. Thats what I had to do. But make sure you have your ... Read More

The local Pontiac Dealer doesn't know what's wrong with the car unless the security light is on while they are working on it. It went off before I arrived at the dealership. How stupid are they? A real mechanic needs an eye and a brain, not a computer to tell them what's wrong with a car. My 2004 Grand am has 115,000 miles. Every now and then the security light would ... Read More

I am having problems with my 2004 Pontiac Grand AM SE. When I hit the brakes the headlights dim and heater bogs down. I have had the battery and altenator replaced. What else could be the problem? My local Pontiac dealership is also unaware of what is going on. PLEASE help.

I've never heard of a Grand Am with cruise control other than on the steering wheel. I had a 99 with it that way and I now have an 04 which is the same.
Yes :-)
Is it on the turn signel arm ?? Gearr
The shaft coming from the steering wheel shows he has cruise control. He has even gotten it to work but does not know how he did it. But we went out and looked again after you said this and there is nothing UNDER the steering wheel. any idea where I can find a book on this car?
Sorry but it may not have cruise control. on the 04 grand am it was on the bottom of the steering wheel. Gearr
Thank you There is no button on the bottom of his steering wheel. He said what he needs is a diaghram of how the 2004 pontiac's work. I have searched the entire web and come up empty.
It is on the steering wheel get up to speed (over 40 mph) turn it on (button on bottom of steering wheel) then push the set button ( next to the on button) I just had a drunk hit me and rold me over 3x and totled it out it was a 04 grand am Gearr

I was looking at purchasing a 2004 Grand Am, but after reading these postings I've decided against it. They're great looking cars, but I can't afford to make payments on a car that might not start after it reaches 40K. Thanks to everyone for posting this info and stay at it. If enough people spread the word, GM will have to respond. Good Luck everyone.
There's no 05 Grand Am GT, 2004 was the last year for the Grand Am. At just under 20k miles on my 04 GT, my answer is no.
Thanks for the reply and yes it turned out to be the passlock which is a damn joke. It was fixed by the dealership for a total of $350 which is a total waste of damn money and like you I asked about disabling it and the dealership said no...what a joke..nothing more than a damn money scam!
I had the same problem just last week with my 2000 Grand Am. It turned out to be an malfunction with the PassLock sensor and Ignition Switch. $820 (CDN funds) bucks later it was fixed... According to Demassi Pontiac in Wayne NJ The 2002 is the last year they are making the Grand Am. Guess he was misinformed huh?
Just to stop your whining, from the Motortrend website "2004 Pontiac Grand Am: Redesign based on the Epsilon platform, expected to grow slightly in size. " The GA was just redesigned in '99. It ain't time yet. Ok, I take it back, the GA will get some slight exterior changes in 2002. Here's some info: http://popularmechanics.com/perl/spy_fetch.pl?cat=det
