One more thing, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is the worst car anyone in my family has ever owned. Other than Corvettes, I will no longer purchase any car made by GM. My most recent vehicle was a 2011 Subaru Outback w/ H6 engine. It now has just over 7500 miles and so far it has been a great vehicle for all the things we need it for. Cheers, Steven

Fuel delivery due to passlock?
I own a 2003 pontiac grand am. Has the passlock problem ever occurred without the security light coming on? Yes, you can use the non-solder fix. The wiring is exactly the same in the two vehicles. It seems like many of these cars are having these problems. I own a 2003 pontiac grand am gt and my ABS, Service Vehicle Soon, and Trac Off lights are on after minutes of turning on my vehicle and driving. What the heck is going on?

I have a 2002 Grand Am was doing the same thing. We took it to the dealership we bought it from and they said it was a flex pipe in the exhaust and replaced it and a valve. No more surging!

You are a perfect candidate for a Service Manual A service manual for your Pontiac will give you step by step diagnostics to solve your wiring problems. There really isn't any other way. This is another of those problems that needs to be diganosed in a "hands-on" fashion, but the service manual will give you a tremendous amount of help.

ccsmileybear, I do not believe you need a new key. This thread deals with Pontiac security systems which have the resistor and switches as part of the ignition switch. If your vehicle is between 1999 and 2003, it's likely you don't have a system which relies on a circuit in the ignition key. What year and model is your pontiac? 1. Ok. Thnks its not a GT its just a 4 door sedan SE. Great so really the transmission should be the same, do i need to worry about if it is a 4 cyl or 6 cyl. I know that has to do with just the engine but those that effect the transmission as well. I have a 6 cyl.

The only difference I'm aware of for those years would be if the donor car was a GT or not, and then the difference would only be in the final drive ratio, which is lower in the GT.

To debjk57-- I have a 2003 GT and last March the same thing happened to me. I ended up spending over $1400.00 to get this fixed. GM is being sued for this problem and there is a class action suit that is supposed to be settled in April or May of 2008. Your problems may just be beginning, debjk57, and a 2003 is out of warranty even if mileage does not exceed GM's miserable 36,000. Please review my post No. 239 for lots of sad details. Your coolant leakage/disappearance is almost certainly due to failed intake manifold gaskets. Gradually the rate of leakage will increase until you start getting low coolant dashboard warnings. I looked at the coolant myself today. It was pink, not discolored. It was low, so my husband put more in the reserve tank. I smelled of it, and could detect a rubbery smell: Maybe a bad gasket?

How did the coolant look? My mother-in-law's Grand Prix had this sludge stuff in there, and the level was really low. I don't remember how it smelled. The root of her problem was a blown lower intake manifold gasket (a pretty common problem on the 3.1L V6).

Make sure that you don't put regular coolant in it. It uses dexcool.

Then the places I would look in this order: Fuse (if a seperate fuse, not sure) Fog Lamp switch (is it really working) Relay I asked about the high beams since the factory wired fog lamps will go off when the high beams are turned on.

Most likely the blower resistor board has failed, a common problem on this model. It's on the bottom of the air plenum in the passengers footwell area. The part runs about $25 or so.

I did a little research for you and found this: http://www.autosite.com/content/research/forums/index.cfm/action/Posts/fid/325 They suggest replacing the Ignition switch or getting new keys for the current one. They also suggest checking the fuel pump relay. The pontiac security system prevents starting if the wrong key is used to start the car. You may also try using the second set of keys and see if that works. Hope that helps.

Another issue with this great little car. Oh I miss my Ford. After I purchased it I found out it has keyless entry, but no remotes. I purchased a remote on ebay. It doesn't have anything to do with the remote starter. It's a security device in the ignition switch called a "pass lock sensor". About a 350.00 repair job. This is getting to be a issue for GM cars the size of the Grand AM. The trick to start the car of waiting 10 mins. to allow the error message to clear out works for a while. Can I ask if you have a remote car starter? I had a similar experience only the garage I dealt with was smart enough to call the dealership to get a code to by pass the thing-a-majig. Originally, they had asked me if I had a spare dealership issued key...that didn't work. My Grand Am was disabled recently by a issue in the igntion switch. The dealer ship has not left me with feeling of confidence in the issue. thanks for the info.. i asked him about all the points that you brought up. 1. it does require premium gasoline (which really sucks) 2. the supercharger is a gm part and was put in by a pontiac dealership and therefore warranty is not affected 3. the car has extended warranty till 2007 so ill be safe for 3 years. 4. as for insurance it will affect it.. however what the ...
