The wiring is the same for the following cars: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am I am informed by someone who did the mod on a 2000 Saturn that there are slight differences in the wiring. The colors of the wires are different, as follows: Grand Am . | Saturn Yellow . . . . | Yellow Black . . . ... Read More
Yes, you can use the non-solder fix. The wiring is exactly the same in the two vehicles. It states at the beginning of my article that this fix applies to the following vehicles: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am These are all Passlock II systems. If you are able to find the wiring bundle with three wires in it, and you ... Read More
The link you furnished is a good reference for many of the GM vehicles listed, however, it only pertains to vehicles that have a separate Anti-theft module. On these cars: 1999 - 2004 Oldsmobile Alero 1997 - 2003 Chevrolet Malibu 1999 - 2004 Pontiac Grand Am The body control module contains the circuitry and brains for the anti-theft system, so the fix for the system is different. On the other hand, ... Read More

Ok, so I'm no car genius, but something is definitely wrong. I own a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am and something is always going wrong with it. The vibration seemed to fade away as my speed increased, ... Read More
I have seen alot of posts relating to GA's in the 1999-2003 range, but I seem to be having these problems with a 2005 GA, is there any difference in the Passlock system on the later model GA or would the resistor trick work as outlined in here? My car has a remote car starter installed and has been checked over by the shop that installed it to ensure it was ... Read More
I have the same ignition lock seizure problem as well. I have a 2005 grand am and its not a passlock issue. You don't need codes to program your new ignition lock. You may have one of two problems if your key will not turn. The most likely problem is that your steering system is putting pressure on the steering lock mechanism, which in turn makes it impossible to turn the key. Try this. Put your key in the ignition and gently try to turn it, while at the same time, turning the ... Read More
i changed my ingnition and my car would not start ether so what idid is i put a remote stater switch on the stater and started the car and it worked but once i a while it pull a attitude with me so im going to wire a perament push button so i wount be stranded so try that it worked for me
you are talking on the new lock, correct?
Turn the ignition to ACC and wait ten minutes to see if it will reset. This might not work, but it costs nothing to try. If it does not work, you can try doing the reset three times in a row at 10-20 minute intervals. Make sure your headlights are off during this time so you don't run down your battery. ;)
I went to start my daughters car and the key would not turn. It is locked up tight. My husband bought a new ingnition lock and the guy at checker said we need codes to program it. We do not have a owners manual for the car and do not want to spend 200 dollars on a code finder that we are going to use one time. Any suggestions?
ccsmileybear, I do not believe you need a new key. This thread deals with Pontiac security systems which have the resistor and switches as part of the ignition switch. If your vehicle is between 1999 and 2003, it's likely you don't have a system which relies on a circuit in the ignition key. What year and model is your pontiac? 1. When the car won't start, is the "SECURITY" light flashing? ... Read More

Hello, I have a 03 pontiac grand am se 6cyl and I need a transmission. I have located parts for 1999 and 2001 grand ams. I wanted to know if I could use there transmissions even if it is a little older. Also I am in need of a power steering pump as well, so I would need that too from. Would those year cars work with my car???
If the security light is coming on while it's running, or it comes on and flashes when you try to start it, then yes, it's a Passlock issue. "Pumping the gas" in a fuel injected engine won't do you any good.
WIth my car the Security light has turned on while I am driving. I haven't had too many problems with the Pontiac Grand Am except when I would try to turn it on occasionally it would start and turn over strong but would not catch. When it would do this I would pump the gas and invariable the car would start and I would have no other problems with this. However ... Read More

For the past year it has been in the shop a few times with same overheating problem and the repair shop can NOT figure it out. Can anyone help with what the actual problem is???Thanks
The problem is usually the Passlock sensor on the ignition switch. Your symptoms are exactly what happens when the sensor starts to become intermittent. The only cure is to replace it. Unless you have the knowledge and tools needed to do the job it's best left to a dealer service tech. It runs about $320 (approx). If I remember right about $120 is for parts, the rest is labor and diagnostic ... Read More
