I am the proud owner of 1997 Pontiac Grand-Am V-6. Its green, and has eaten a lot of green too. I have only owned the car for the last year, and i gotta say its a fun car minus the how badly it deals with harsh winters(body-wise). the engine and trans run fine. The ride is a bit rough, and there is considerable body roll when cornering, mine had ans still has no power steering due to a leak in one very awkwardly placed pressure line. The body is very nice, and has held up nicely mostly because its plastic. the frame is in a very bad way, but still holding even after being rear-ended by a '97 olds 88 a few months ago. Its a tank in the snow, and runs great, w/197k miles on it.
Traction control was nice however simplistic and only really helps when on take-off. The heater and A/C where things of beauty esp. for being 13 yrs old. the stereo was nice except when the screen cracked and burnt out. Auto headlights where beautiful and very bright at night.
Firmer susp. for less body roll. redesign the center console for the cup holders are always either in the way of the shifter or the shifter in the way of whatevers in your cupholders. And i was unable to choose the model i actually own, but i do own a '97 Pontiac Grand-Am SE 3.1L V-6 with the 4-speed Automatic Transmission.
