I am certain that the costs of shipping were carefully considered when the MSRPs were set. I am also reasonably certain that GM \ Pontiac considered such other factors as: 1) Pontiac needs a sales success. You know...it's not the V-6's that go into the trucks & SUV's that are the problem. They've always done good with those engines. It's the cars that end up suffering. Apparently not 'official' EPA #s, but I am told that the G8's Launch Site shows MPG: "The Pontiac G8 with the 3.6L V6 engine is estimated to achieve 17 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. What ? This car is like 6 or 7 inches shorter than a current Grand Prix Check out http://www.velocityjournal.com/journal/2008/pontiac/16827sp.html for G8 specs. The wheelbase is actually a good 2+" larger on the G8 than the current GXP. Length is about 6" shorter than the current GXP. Both width and height are a smidge more on the G8.
