Dry up the current liquid around the manifold and heads by soaking up with paper towels. See how soon it reappears. What was the date on one of the circles for the upper intake? If it was original to the car, it may have had a partial fix applied. I believe during 1999 is when GM changed the size of the metal EGR pipe. DexCool develops a gooop if regular antifreeze ... We also have a 92 Bonneville. Several years ago the same thing happened. It was summer, and just started happening. Nobody could find the problem. One day, in the winter it would start, but continue misfiring from the time it started, then it wouldn't start at all. We found out it was the coil. We replaced it, & it ran better than when we first got it. We bought it used ... Read More

Evandro-Which issue? My point is- We are talking about 3 different coolant leaks causes. (And the Montana never used a 3.8L engine. The last 3.8 GM Van was the 1995 TransSpot which did not use the Series II that went into the Bonneville.) oldram51--If yours was a gasket leak then why did you repalce $500 worth of Lower Intake Manifold and Upper Intake Manifold (Plenum)? • Oil consumption

Written by: jamesgrimm on Oct 3, 2002 4:12:14 PM

What is typical for oil consumption for the 3800 V6? I have a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville that I bought with 24,000 miles and it uses about 0.5-0.75 quarts of oil every oil change (3,000 miles). This has been fairly consistent as I have now changed the oil about 3 times. I use the reccomended 10W-30 and I like to use 1 quart of Rislone. There is no leakage and no visible ... Read More

Hi all. I had not taken a look here in Edmunds chat rooms since I purchased my 2K SSEi in October of 1999, but, it's nice to see there are a group of proud Bonneville owners and that there appears to be serious discussion here. In addition to posting our 2 seconds of fame from the fall issue of Pontiac Magazine, I wanted to stir up some interest in old 2k ... Read More

I know that many of you are "supercharged" on your bonnevilles but what about a basic sedan for grandma and grandpa? My 70 something folks have always driven Ford Crown Vic's but need to down size and economize. We aren't impressed with the Taurus so have been looking at Pontiacs. How is the Bonneville's history as far as engine reliability? They will probably need to look at used...1999 maybe? Comfort for ... Read More

I am curious. About five or six months after I took delivery of my Bonneville I received a "thank-you" gift in the mail from Pontiac - a compact disc carrying case. I guess I was expecting more, because after I bought my 1999 Tahoe, Chevy Truck sent me a very nice carrying case containing an insulated mug, a Maglite flashlight, an umbrella and a first-aid kit. My apologies if my post #881 sounded like I was suggesting that the Aurora replacing the Bonneville made sense. It doesn't. 'Course, that in no way means that GM won't do it. Consider: last year, Pontiac sold 60,000 Bonnevilles - an improvement over 1999's 45,000 units and a little over double the number of Auroras sold in the same period. Still, since about 60% of the Bonnie's sold were SE's, I ... Read More

But, there are a number of things that make you ask what they were thinking. So what are some of these +ve and -ve features (IMHO)? Likes styling performance size driver/passenger ... Read More

Interesting to hear about the voltage drop problem. We were never told this--no mention of a service bulletin at our trusty Pontiac dealer. We had this problem appear in 1999, the dealer replaced the instrument cluster. When the vehicle was returned to us, the A/C was inoperative, which was repaired with a new evaporator coil. hen, when the vehicle was returned to us the A/C still did not work>bad solenoid. So ... I'm 6'7" with a 36-37 inseam and am having a difficult time finding a new car that I fit in comfortably. My '89 Buick LeSabre has 124,000 miles and counting and its getting tired. It's been a reasonably good car, great mileage, lots of room, but the drivers seat is like mush (probably due to my size). I went to the Auto show in Cleveland last week and must have tried ...
