I have just read your message and I have a Chrysler Neon LX UK model 1996. I have the same problem of the battery draining. It has a new battery which is a standard american battery and it has been into a UK dealer and they have told me there is nothing wrong with the charging system. This is a recurring problem in which I find often I have to charge ... Read More

This happened to me a couple years back to my 2001 dodge Neon. I took it to the dodge dealer 3 times and was ready to apply the lemon law. They were never able to find the problem after the 3rd trip there they claimed they changed some wires and it never happened again. They claimed they never had seen this problem before. Months later my own mechanic changed my battery ... Read More

Sounds like your AC needs recharging. Easy fix at your local Autozone. They sell the complete kit to do it yourself. Mine made a similar noise and my AC blew completely hot air and after I recharged it the air was ice cold in the hottest of days. No more noise. I believe the noise is the recharge system trying to suck the remaining freon that's in it and it is ... Read More

2001 Plymouth Neon - A/C problem?
Written by: deboxtremo on Aug 1, 2005 1:27:19 PM
I just bought a 2001 Plymouth Neon with 75000 miles on it. It ran fine for about a day, and then this humming noise started happening. At first it wasn't very often, but then it increased in frequency and the A/C started blowing warmer air. The noise is a low pitched humming/squealing type of noise. I thought it might be a belt, since I just got this and it probably hadn't ... Read More

I agree with the battery replacement. My gauges jumped while driving at 70MPH and I had to pull over after getting a flat tire. When I went to start my 99 Neon, it had a hard time starting. For $55.00 it was worth the aggravation. Neons are great cars and maintenance is cheap if you're handy a ratchet.

I would consider replacing the battery. I have had several Neons and currently have a 99 Plymouth and a 2002 Dodge R/T. Both my 99 and an earlier 99 R/T had their batteries replaced because of strange electrical problems. Once the batteries were replaced the problems went away. Even though the batteries started the cars with no problems they had weak cells which did not allow the computer to get the ... Read More

I bought my son a new 2001 Neon for his Senior year in High School and to get him through his 4 years of college. I had no idea this car maintenance (routine) have cost more than my GS 300 Lexus. The car is losing power and is starting to cut off. I have taken it to two dealership so far. The last dealership still has the car (Friday-Unknown) and it ... Read More

Was the Plymouth version of the Dodge Sport. It included all the same features as the Sport, it was just called the Expresso on the Plymouth line. It was available from 95 to 98. It included different 'standard' stuff depending on which year it was. The best year for standard stuff on a sport or expresso was 95, it was much like the 98 R/T package that was only for the ... I currently am 33 months into a 5 year lease on my 1998 Plymouth Neon Expresso. I'm pretty happy with it and had very little problems like the head gasket, but that was covered in the warranty. I have 29,000 miles so far and am in need of 2 new tires. Im looking to upgrade now so Im in the car market again. One thing I was wondering is if I ... Read More

HI, I continue to read, with amusement, the continuing saga of Protege Vs. Neon. Even though this is the DODGE\Plymouth Neon 2 BBS. You know VOCUS, YOU created the Protege\NEON BBS (last entry 10\10), why not focus, Vocus, (hey! I made a funny!)your "expertise" there? As usual, you patronizing remarks regarding how "I really do like the Neon" are just a mask for who you really are..., a troll with little else ... Read More

I have seen 3 2001 Neons already (1 Dodge, 2 Plymouth) and none have had a 4-speed. Maybe it will be a running change or something. I hope so. Anyway, I am going to take the car to a different dealer next week and have them fix all the TSBs and recalls, plus anything else they find. It just sucks that Dodge won't give a loaner if the car is in ... Read More

Yes, they are still making cars. I know for a fact 2001 is the last year for Plymouth to make the Neon. I don't know about the rest of the line, but the 2001 Neon is out now. Anyway, we got a recall on the PCV valve yesterday in the mail. I don't know exactly what it said. Something to the affect that in cold weather, the valve will freeze or ... Read More

2001 Neon...

I test drove a 2001 Plymouth Neon LX on Saturday. The engine and wind noise have been greatly reduced, and they added a 3rd shoulder belt for the middle-rear occupant. But, no 4-speed automatic yet. They did, however, add side air bags. Also, got into my friend's sister's 2000 Neon too. And it does NOT vibrate like his 2000 Neon ES does. So I guess it's back to the dealer again. ... Read More
