    sounds like your catalyst converter is plugged up. especially if when you are driving the transmission shifts funny and you can only go around 25-30MPH.can verify with a vacuum gauge which is the more economically correct way. the other you would need a exhaust back pressure gauge which runs around $350

    I had a similar problem w/ my neon ,however I don't have power locks .The dome light and door ajar would come on intermittantly . It turned out to just be the switch that controls the dome light .It was out of adjustment .Just check to see if its loose and try and adjust it so it goes all the way in when the door closes .     I have a 2000 Plymouth Neon with 101K miles. Have had this current problem for the last 6 mos. but has been intermittent and gradual. My automatic locks are constantly clicking while I drive, above 30 and 40 mph. My dome light also turns on occassionally while driving and my dash reads that a door is ajar, even though it is not. Any ideas?

    I WAS INFORMED ON MY 97 THAT SOMETIMES AIR GETS INTO THE SYSTEM, EVEN THOUGH IT ISN'T WORKING PROPERLY DOESN'T MEAN IT IS SHOT. TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND HAVE IT CHECKED BY THE PROS, IT MAY JUST NEED RECYCLED AND REFILLED, HOPE THIS HELPS.

I've had different opinions from everybody I know - anywhere from plugs, wires, coil to battery, alternator, electrical shorts to O2, cam, and crank sensors. Today the check engine light finally reared its ugly head. What is the general concensus on this one?

    mk7- The same thing happened to me. I went to a car stereo place and they sold me the entire wire set that goes to the neon. Color to color, perfect match. I then was able to easily match all the wires and connect the new connectors that came with it to my stock stereo. The cost was very reasonable. :)
