Nissan ended up not paying for mine. The dealership seemed to support me, but when corporate started their "investigation" they decided it was normal wear & tear. at 46,000 miles - ridiculous. It seems Nissan WILL NOT admit this issue, and although I love my Xterra - if the clutch goes again I am selling the ********. By the way I am in California too. Good luck to you!

2006 MT Well after 3 clutches (3rd done at aamco), failed gas gauge (got $ back when recall finally happened), faulty electric window (body shop repair), rear diff/trans repair ($2300 at aamco). What an incredible experience - even with previous american cars it wasn't this bad from product to service to 'customer service' WOW. Nissan, hard lesson learned. - getting another toyota and cannot wait!

I bought my '06 Xterra new in 2007. At 7954 miles, the clutch gave out. Took it to the dealer, he repaired/replaced it and said they decided to use the warranty ( no charge ) because they figured it was NOT a "driver" issue, ie., a bad part/design. Just purchased a used 2006 S 4X2 with 12000 miles. On the ride back from the dealer (which was 200 mi away) I averaged 22.7 MPG. Most of the drive was on the interstate (in Florida) with the cruise set at 79. In town I averaged 19.8 MPG. I just recieved a K&N panel filter so we'll see what kind of difference it makes. -Barry

I fill 87 gasoline into the tank to maximum level, until the store fuel pump nozzle cutoff valve activates. I then drive until the amber/yellow low fuel warning light comes on. The tank gets filled up and the pump readout shows, on average, ~18.5 gallons filled into the tank. There is a clear deficit of approximately 2.6 gallons in my specific Xterra package, which is a 2-wheel drive SE. I am ... Read More

I also drove the Xterra and FJ on the same day and went with the Xterra for the same reasons. I was hoping for more from Toyota on this vehicle. As the previous owner of a 1988 4Runner I was excited to see what the FJ had to offer. The old 4Runner was a beast but the FJ just comes up as soft compared to it. Told the sales person that their price was out of line, especially since she wanted to put me in a pathfinder for $399/month. I have never owned an XTerra, but can only assume that Nissan does not think much of the residual on this truck. For $465 I can do a lot better than a $28,000 ... Read More

Pricing is net of rebates - November is just around the corner; rebates could increase. More than one dealer told me that Nissan is not trying to push 2006 onto dealers; they will start selling 2006 to any dealers who have cleared (or just about cleared) 2005s. My problem is that I have a 1999.5 Pathfinder to sell before I can take advantage of any deal on the Xterra; dealers can't ... Read More

I've loved driving my 2002 Xterra SC for the last three years (and had another before that). Sure it eats a little gas, but all round performance and versatility is top grade. (lacking in power? Try the SC five speed... that'll change your mind) So I was pretty excited about upgrading this year to the 2005 and went for a couple of test rides. Now I'm really bummed. PROS: Nice power ...
