fuel gauge dropping quick like that and staying on empty is the sending unit/fuel pump sold as one assembly piece for $425 -just replaced it on my '05 the flapper that floats on top of the fuel in the gas tank is conected to a circuit board and that is the problem on that assembly the board fried. I have a 2005 Nissan Xterra. I recently have been noticing a problem. I go to start my car and when I turn the key, it turns but nothing happens. The few times it's happened the car was fine all day then out of nowhere I go to start it and nothing. I wait a while then it starts. i was getting 11 mpg......on my 2005 xterra. the problem was when i cleaned the battery posts, i did not realize that the ecu got re-set and when i started engine it was on its re-learning air/fuel mixture procedure...... you must keep rpm's from 1000 to 1500 and not go above that for the following: take truck to open highway with low rpm's and get up to 60 mph for 15 ... If you have a fuel gauge that doesn't go up to full after you fill your tank coupled with a "Service Engine Soon" MIL on your console, the problem is probably an error code PO463. I'm in the same boat - want something with good off-road capabilities (in my case, pretty much just for camping and running to the store when our RX400h is busy).
