Considering buying this for my 16yr old...........w/94K miles on it for 5K. Not sure if I will as it does not have side air bags. I used to have a 98 Maxima that ran forever and was very reliable. Any thoughts on the reliability of this model, and specific issues/parts inherent to the 03 Xterra?

If you have a fuel gauge that doesn't go up to full after you fill your tank coupled with a "Service Engine Soon" MIL on your console, the problem is probably an error code PO463. This is the fuel level sending unit. It's a common to very common issue with the Xterra at around 40k miles. Mine went bad on a cross country trip at 39980 miles. No, it's not covered ... Read More
I have been driving manual trans. for over 35 years, including 2001 and 2003 Xterra. the 2007 I purchased has a clutch failure at only 16k. no city driving, no hauling, over 10 years experience driving xterra manual trans. over 35 years experience driving manual trans and nissan wont pay for new clutch -- not even a dime!!! needless to say, i will never buy a nissan again.
I just bought a 2003 XTerra XE, power windows and locks with 25,700 miles for $16,500. It was about $1200 less than the KBB rating. I feel I got a good eal but then later on I was looking in at the dealer's web site and the car I bought was still isted as an "internet" price of about 1 grand less. I wonder if the internet price was a ploy ... Read More
hello all.... I'm a habitual PF owner (Previously owned a 2001 LE) and currently own a 2003 LE. I'm LOVING the looks on the new Xterra (and also the new Pathy) and am contemplating purchasing another one sometime this summer. I just can't decide if I want to stay with the Pathy or step (a bit?) down to the Xterra. Some Q's on the Xterra: Moon Roof: Can you see anything ... Read More

I wonder what percentage of Xterras are being manufactured with the optional side air bags? I would venture to guess it is below 5%. I did an internet search within 100 miles of New Orleans and only found one Xterra in dealer inventory with side air bags. I hope the Insurance Institute's recent findings on how poorly most smaller SUVs did in a side impact when not equipped with side air ... Read More
Follow up to my post #2290, 21 Feb 2003. My 2002 Xterra still sits awaiting another engine. After numerous calls to Nissan in Calif. over the last month I got no place, it was almost as if the Cust. Rep. used a recording? Weekly calls and visits to the dealer were sympathetic and reassuring at best, but no real answers other than to be patient and Nissan would make good. Incidentally ... I'm a very upset consumer. today I picked up a 2003 Xterra broacher. As I was excited to get the new leather interior on SE S/C edition. But I find Nissan will no longer offer a 5 speed on any SE or S/C models for 2003. I knew they where dropping it from the pathfinder but the Xterra is for offroading. and nothing funner than shifting as your climbing rough trails! ... Read More
Does anybody have any news about the '03 models or will it be a carryover from the '02's? Thanks.
