A Real Blast To Own
Vehicle
2001 Nissan Xterra SE 4WD 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
I really like this vehicle and off road in canyons and roadless areas, it's incredible. However, the gas mileage could be much better. It's engine is pretty powerless on hills and the seats could use a bit more ergonomic design. But, overall, it's a fun SUV to own and drive. With improvements to reflect today's driving issues, I would buy another one.
Favorite Features
Rugged and tough either on paved roads, in town or off road. Very reliable.
Suggested Improvements
Seat design, engine power and, definitely gas mileage. This vehicle would make a wonderful hybrid.

Great 4x4, horrible gas mileage.

Review
Wow, the gas mileage is horrible. First fill up was 16 mpg and second was 14 mpg. I could get the same in a full size truck. Other than that the suv rides well and for my purposes has plenty of interior room. Driven off road only once so far, but will put it to the test when the snow comes. Does well off road. Very quiet interior, but yes there is some squeaks now and then from the cheap plastic interior. Has decent power to get up the hills, but could use more. Clock could be brighter for use in the day. Over all a great suv, but you would expect it would get better mpg with a 3.3 L motor. Thought it should get around 18-21 mpg hyw. If you can afford the gas buy one.
Favorite Features
Radio/cd changer, looks of the exterior, solid closing doors, reported reliability.
Suggested Improvements
Better mpg, a little more power, more cushion in the seats. Easier to work on the motor for home mechanics. Turbo or super charger.

Cost-wise - best vehicle I've ever owned
Vehicle
2001 Nissan Xterra SE 2WD 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
No, it's not the most comfortable but it's not a luxury vehicle. When I paid it off 2 yrs ago, I knew I wanted to keep it for another 2 or 3 yrs and so I put $2100 in it to get a/c fixed, tune-up and timing belt replaced. Other than that all I've ever replaced was a battery, tires and brakes.
Favorite Features
Suggested Improvements
Better gas mileage. Checked out the 2008s and they don't get any better mileage. Need to update the style as well.

Review
I have owned quite a few cars and trucks, but when I purchased this, I fell in love. Everyone says always trade before the miles get too large, but I don't have any desire to trade in. I will probably drive it till it falls apart, and an 80% chance of getting the exact make and model in the future. I love the feeling of being up high and seeing out, I love the interior. For the year of my vehicle, I am glad to say there are no paint discrepancies or rust. Everything in mine is still original, and it has never been touched up or painted.
Favorite Features
Dashboard, pockets between front seats, driveability.
Suggested Improvements
The only thing I would like changed, is dashboard trim (where paint tends to chip, on gray color) and the most improvement I would love to see is a different paint on bumpers, after several years, they fade to a dull gray even with protectant, it will not take.

01 Xterra V6 4x4
Vehicle
2001 Nissan Xterra XE 4WD 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
I have driven my Xterra cross country 3 times now and have taken numerous road trips. It is a great vehicle from every standpoint. The gas mileage is ok but is improved with small aftermarket parts. I off road often and have a Rancho lift kit and run LT 285s on the Xterra. Once in 4lo, the Xterra is unstoppable. Even when it was stock, it was very dependable off road. I like how the seats give you a commanding view of the road and are very comfortable. The 3.3L V6 is underpowered but matched with the 5 speed manual tranny, it does well enough. The Supercharged version that came out a few years later would be the way to go. It puts out 210 hp I believe. Either way, the Xterra is a great suv.
Favorite Features
Great 4x4, comfortable interior, tons of room, handy steering wheel controls.
Suggested Improvements
The Xterra needed more power which is why Nissan introduced a supercharged version and then the new 05 and up Xterras have the new 4.0 V6 with 261 hp.

Review
I use the Xterra for work and play. It handles anything I need from towing a flatbed trailer, loading gear on the roof rack and getting to the most remote trails for off roading. Gas mileage is decent for a midsize suv and power is adequate at most. The Xterras up side far outweighs the bad. It is the most solid vehicle I have ever owned (6) and I would recommend it to people of all ages.
Favorite Features
Great 4x4. Handy in dash 6 disc changer and steering wheel mounted controls.

Improving but not ready for prime time
Vehicle
2001 Nissan Xterra XE 2WD 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 5M)
Review
This SUV will get you from A to B, it rides decently, and gets decent mileage. I had it for two years and I purchased it when it was 2 yrs old. No major problems. It's safe and designed well specifically the exterior. The interior lacks leg room, and needs more pep from a stopped position. The clutch was not as smooth as others, and the gas mileage was average. Middle of the road, not in the Toyota or other big boys league but improving.

Review
Reliable vehicle. I am not a big fan of SUVs, so right off the bat I'm biased, however, for the price it was worth it. It doesn't compare to the big guys in terms of comfort, the acceleration from a stop is fair at best. It does not have decent gas mileage nor, if you need it, leg room.
Favorite Features
The rack. Built relatively sturdy, a safe SUV.
Suggested Improvements
More interior head and leg room. A smoother more comfortable ride. It should get better gas mileage while having a little pep to it.
Just what I expected

2001 Nissan Xterra XE-V6 2WD 4dr SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5M)
Review
I bought my Xterra used, and knew when I got it that the mileage was below average even for a mid-sized SUV. The trade-offs have been worth it. FUN to drive, great curb appeal, roomy cargo area, reliable engine performance. I have had ZERO problems with it mechanically, no window or CD failure here.
Favorite Features
Turning radius, interior layout, appearance.
Suggested Improvements
Like everyone else... fuel-economy could be improved and the front seats need more cushioning.

I do my part, oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. and this car keeps humming along. I drive 70 to 80 miles per day at 70 plus mph. during the week and take the occasional Georgia Mt. trip over rutted red clay trails-never a problem! Tough and reliable transportation.
Favorite Features
Small turn radius, controls easy to reach.
Suggested Improvements
Sunroof.
