Review

Bought my Versa in September and have been relatively happy with it. Most important: great gas mileage. I drive 40 miles each way to work and, according to the computer, I am averaging 40.4 mpg. Amazing. That figure reflects mostly freeway driving. In-town stop and go driving brings the average down. This is a car for cruising. It is quiet inside the cabin and pretty smooth going over bumps. A lot of room inside the cabin. I call my car The Beast, because it is a big car inside, although it looks little outside. Very high roof, so it feels very spacious. I am happy....though not overjoyed.

Best Features

A lot of room inside, useful and well laid-out controls, good sound quality when I play my CDs. A lot of visibility---the windows are huge, even the back window, which seems to be getting short shrift lately on other models of cars. Like the high seats...I'm a bug on this. I like to be able to see the front of the car---and I can!

Worst Features

The car seems to hesitate when shifting from 1st to 2nd and there is a certain amount of whining at low speeds. Inside finish could be better. The inside door panel on the driver's side seems loose. Maybe a screw needs to be tightened. Still, it doesn't rattle. Most annoying design flaw....front window visor are small. Work fine when in front, but when used to shield the driver from sun coming from the side, are virtually worthless. Nissan needs to make them bigger or add some attachment so that it extends further on the side window.

It should be pointed out that your car does not shift gears. It has a CVT (continuously variable transmission). There are NO gear changes at all. Think of it as one giant gear. It will adjust the engine RPMs based on throttle input and the speed at which you're traveling. The CVT transmission does behave oddly. It's something you have to get used to. You might notice while accelerating with your foot steady on the throttle that the RPMs drop slightly and catch back up. This is very common with a CVT.

The car seems to hesitate when shifting from 1st to 2nd and there is a certain amount of whining at low speeds. ////////////////////// Go to pure-gas.org to find addresses, details, & a great zoomable map to the 5300+ stations selling 100% pure(ethanol-free) gasoline in the U.S. & Canada. Your hesitation will stop & your car will run smoother, quieter & with a trace more power, so that you will climb hills with less need to downshift. After switching to 100% pure gasoline, our 3 cars' mpg increased 8.3%, 7-8%, & 5%.
