NOVEMBER 2007 -- Nissan is recalling 653,910 MY 2002 and 2005-2006 Altima and Sentra vehicles equipped with 2.5L engines. The crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. If the interruption in the signal from the sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ECM) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while ... purchasing any used car is a gamble especially one that is almost 8 years old.however, considering that this sentra has low milaege and that nissans in general are pretty reliable cars you shouldn't have to many issues.
I have a chance to purchase a 2002 Sentra GXE auto with only 33,000 miles on it. Clean inside and runs great. Some dings and knicks to the exterior. I can get it for $3,900. Any comments from previous owners please!!!!!
can you explain and help me locate sensors also is it somthing that i can do my self my car is a 2002 nissan sentra . odometer reads 119588 miles.thank you.
The owner baled at the mechanic checks and refused to pay for any repair cost, and then I ran.. I appreciate all you nice advices, kiawah. Best regards! Rice
And if the owner balk's at the idea that some mechanic was going to look at it.....run, don't walk from the deal. Also, even after a mechanic looks at it, there is no guarantee that the vehicle won't have some problems (undoubtedly there will be). A mechanic can observe some of the obvious issues. There may be hidden issues that only show up under certain operating conditions (like won't start if ... Read More
kiawah, much appreciate your valuable advice. I will hae an independent mechanic check the car. Thank you very much.
The better deal is unabled to be determined, based upon the limited information you provided. You would need a qualified mechanic to check them over. One bad problem with either of the vehicles (like an engine or transmission problem).....or a couple smaller problems (like new CV joints, brakes, tires, shocks, waterpump/cooling) could total thousands of dollars to repair. One of the vehicles that appears initially to be a better deal, could ... Read More

Any update with the 20O1 sensor problem? I'm having pretty much exactly the same problem with my 2002 Sentra SE, and after visiting 3 dealerships I'm inclined to agree with the second dealership's opinion: it's the ECM. The thing is, there was that recall on the ECM foam casing which you've probably already had performed, and the reason for the recall was, some acidic material in the foam casing could eat ... You all having given me some great info. I just want to say thanks for the time you all spend helping out others with all types of questions. I really like the Nissan Sentra 2004, just very unhappy with the MPG. We have had the 2000 Altima, 2001 Frontier, 2002 Xterra and the 2004 Sentra is the only one I have had any issues with.
If Nissan does do an all new 2005 Sentra, I'd expect it to be late in the fall of 2004, like the Mazda 6's intro date. Some recent Asian cars that went over the "5 year cycle". The pre RSX Integra and the 1994-1999 Celica. Some were called a "new generation" because of reskins, like the 2002 Maxima, the 98 Corolla, and the 1998 Mazda 626

JD Power quality surveys are rather neutral things, hitting everyone soon after they buy a new car. The neutrality is probably best evidenced by the fact that Saturn, a maker of inexpensive cars, competes neck and neck for satisfaction with Lexus. Just got my October Car & Driver with a (sparse) review of the 2002 cars. The bad news, for us here on this forum, is that not much is happening in the low-end market next year. For those of you w/o access to this mag, here's the details (with editorial commentary, of course): * Chevy: ... Read More

OK, how about some positive comments about Kia for a change? I will nominate them as the Styling Champ for the Low-End Market. Why would I do this? (I am completely sober.) I saw the G35- looks sorta like the new Altima, but this one is supposedly rear wheel drive. The G20 looks like it'll still continue basically the same next year. I didn't know that this site existed, and is Nissan's official site for news. I ... Read More
probably true since they will not make the 3.0L V-6 either. The G20 will run for a couple more months as a 2002 before it will get replaced by the G35 in the Infiniti line-up. So it makes sense for Nissan to get rid of the 2.0L engine.
