Review

I have had this car since my 16th birthday. I bought it brand new with only 4 miles on it. Still to this day, 8 years later, it drives amazing. I have driven it across country multiple times and treated it poorly, despite that this car has been a trooper. It has never broken down on me. The only things I have had to replace 150000 later are the tires, car battery, and a fuse fro the headlight which was $6. I love this car. It's very reliable and I couldn't have asked for a better deal and even though it has been paid off now for 3 years it is still running great and I have no car payment. This car is a real keeper and I hope my next car is as tough as this one.

Favorite Features

reliable, comfy, large inside, decent trunk, safe, great gas mileage, and decent looking

Suggested Improvements

a little on the slower side.

This car has stolen my heart with its reliability. My car has 180,000k and it still runs like a new car. The only trouble i had was replacing the breaks and the rotors because the breaks had no squeakers. The Nissan Sentra is a great buy.

Favorite Features

The gas mileage. 36 mpg

Suggested Improvements

Fix the mirrors on the visors.

I like my 2001 Nissan Sentra 2.0, because its easy to maintain and repair. So far it has odometer reading of 160,000 and its still running and sound the same as I bought it 7 years ago. For seven years, I already changed 2 rear hub assembly, fan resistor and 4 tires. I recommend this car, its very reliable if you maintain it regularly. I run average of 120kms everyday and it never gave me headache even a single day.

Review

We bought our '01 Sentra as a young couple. Its design, size in its class and handling were the features that sold it. In 7 years of owning it, we have never worried about taking it for long trips. It holds its own on snowy and icy VT roads in winter with the right tires. Everything about this car was solid - the doors were heavy and tough as were the lid of the trunk and the hood. The mileage was a fuel sipping 35 mpg on the highway. It is a compact car and the room behind the driver can be a little less if the driver is tall, but that is true of all compact cars of '01. I have finally traded our Sentra in for a Quest as our family requirements have changed. This is a great Nissan product!

Favorite Features

Style, handling, mpg, split rear seat, room.

Suggested Improvements

Nothing.

Review

Great 4-cylinder car with 145 horsepower. I bought the car new in October, 2001 and have driven it ever since - 113,000 miles so far. Fuel economy has been good the whole time, and is the same now as it was when I bought it (26 city/30+ highway). The only upgrade I've added is a K&N Air Filter Charger for about $40 (improves fuel economy and horsepower a little bit). Only maintenance other than routine has been new brakes, new tires, and new spark plugs. Handling is great. My only complaint the whole time has been the road noise - it's pretty noisy at highway speeds. Didn't like the "premium" sound system that came with the SE model, so I added an aftermarket system.

Favorite Features

Reliability (fantastic!). Fuel economy. Exterior appearance. 16" wheels. Decent power for 4-cylinder. Comfortable seats. Great handling.

Suggested Improvements

Noise dampening/insulation to cut down on road noise. Add a 6th gear to the manual transmission for cruising at highway speeds. Better stock sound system. Back seat is pretty cramped for tall people.

Bought it with 12,600 on the ODO. Now has 95,200. Used Synthetic in it since I got it; engine runs great. Overall, I've been very happy with it as a commuter car that does about 80-90 miles a day. The most major thing I've had to do was the recent suspension upgrade where I replaced the stock struts/shocks/springs with something a little more sporting; this move totally transformed the car. The GXE was designed for comfort, not handling! The materials used in the interior are cheap (except dash) and show wear easily. Also, get the windows tinted as the sun fades seats/carpet. Nissan really skimped on the interior to save money, but it's got good mechanicals and a solid chassis to work with.

Favorite Features

1.8 is peppy. Auto trans shifts firm and shift points well chosen. Decent ergonomics, good seat adjustablity. Roomy interior, good trunk space. Excellent visibility. There are plenty of aftermarket performance and appearance parts available these days. Most Spec-V stuff fits lower models too...

Suggested Improvements

Discontinued model. But for those in the market for an older one, I definitely recommend upgrading the suspension and adding at least a plus 1 wheel and tire package. I highly recommend the Nismo S-Tune suspension kit. Stock stereo system needs upgrading because the components are also el-cheapo...

Lots of headroom for tall people, peppy SR20 engine, sure it rattles and is noisy but it cost next to nothing and is pretty quick for what it is. 105k miles no real problems. Low quality paint. I have had it since the showroom floor and plan to keep it for quite a while longer. Excellent college student car. I commute into Minneapolis every day in it. Civic reliability with Saturn prices. Go for the 5 speed in the charcoal grey or black. Replace the Firestone tires with some Yokohamas. I hit a deer years ago and the car still runs like the day it was new. Five stars for the money.

Favorite Features

4-wheel disc brakes, styling, power for a 4 cyl auto. Car has excellent character, and can be very fun to drive. Much more power than similar cars.

Suggested Improvements

Not overly comfortable on long trips, A/C really kills the engine power, and it is a bit noisy. Not especially fuel efficient.

This is the third Sentra I have owned. These are very reliable cars and the gas mileage is great. I get 36 MPG on the highway.

Favorite Features

The best feature of the Sentra is the economy of ownership.

Suggested Improvements

My only criticism of the car is the comfort of the seats. Very tiring on long drives.

Review

My car has not had an easy mile in its life. From destroying a deer going 65 mph to some mild offroad drifting (rock crawling?!?) this car has been virtually invincible. We got this about the same time we got a Suburban, and this little car has worn its abuse much better. I have the SE model with the SR20DE and an automatic tranny. This car isn't pretty after its 7 years of abuse, but it sure runs like a top. I'm in college and commute over 40 miles every day and I expect this car to be there for me for another 100,000 miles. It has carried my 16 foot canoe hundreds of miles without a problem and has done dozens of trips to all the midwest. Do yourself a favor and get the stickshift.

Favorite Features

Reliability, economy, fog lights, powerful 4 wheel disc brakes, handles like a sports car. Most durable economy car, more fun than a civic. SR20DE DOHC has a lot of pep for its size.

Suggested Improvements

AC kills the engine power. Automatic tranny takes all the fun out of driving the car. The plastic and body are very loosely attatched and are quite cheap in quality. Car looks too feminine. Backseat only fit for spider monkeys and small people. Ratcheting rear calipers are a pain to work with.

Unfortunately I have not been as lucky as others who have posted here. I have had the computer go out at 70k, the rotors go out at 100k, the brake pads are replaced every other month, I get about 17 MPG. I have had the fuel filter replaced, the steering column replaced, and must do regular flushes to all fluids. I bring it in monthly to a mechanic (and have switched a few times just to make sure the mechanics weren't messing with the car). Can anyone say lemon?
