2012 Nissan Rogue S 4dr SUV AWD (2.5L 4cyl CVT)


I recently purchased a nissan rogue, after driving the car for a couple of days i noticed a strange vibration coming from the vehicle. I brought it back to garden city several times, each time i was given a different explanation as to what was causing the vibration. Finally on my last visit i was told that the cause was the cvt transmission and that this was normal. This vibration makes for a terrible driving experience. An automobile should run smoothly. I suggest any one interested in buying the nissan rogue to find something else.

The Rogue's CVT noise and vibration is a known issue. A lot of complains and YouTube publication with that issue and in all cases the service department sends their costumers away and refuses to do anything. The Nissan know about this problem but they will not recall because they can not fix it - this is a CVT design gap. CVT is a good idea but it has very low margin of safety and initially was designed only for snowmobile. Once it migrated to a vehicle the vehicle started acting like a snowmobile :)

I have a 2012 Rogue, and I do notice this vibration a bit. It's very slight on my car you have to pay close attention to feel it. It tends to happen when you are driving for best fuel efficiency and accelerating from a stop. With very slight pedal pressure the engine will run at about 1200 rpm as you accelerate, this is very low rpm for an engine running under load (acceleration). The engine seems to vibrate a bit when loaded up at this low speed. Nissan seems to have programmed the transmission to keep engine rpm very low for acceleration when the driver is very light on the accelerator. This will maximize fuel efficiency. If you want to get rid of the vibration, give it a bit more gas; it will accelerate at about 1500 - 1700 rpm with no vibration. There will only be a slight difference in fuel economy.
