When you check the oil every time you fill up, did you check BEFORE drain the oil? or AFTER fill up the new oil? How does it look like? and did you check the dirty oil that you drain out of the oil tank? I mean, did you notice the "volume" of the dirty oil actually shrink? and how much loss? for that 15,000 miles. Yours may not have loosed too ... Read More
Mine has not changed since 2008 and running great; I am wondering if anyone has longer record.
Actually we have been a Nissan fan for some years. Let's see, Had a 1991 Maxima, then 1993 Sentra, then 1996 Pathfinder, then a 2004 Maxima in 2004, then we down sized for a 2000 maxima. When we found out that we were expecting our first baby, we upgraded to a 2005 Nissan Murano in 2008, then realized, that we didn't need an SUV so down sized I guess to a ... Read More
The problem seemed to be the dirty throttle body, especially the edge of throttle plate. (see this http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/idleproblems.html#toolow ). The solution is just simply clean it, just a few easy steps. (see this http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.ee93b52/1443#MSG1443 ) The root cause seemed to be "overfill the engine oil" and cold time oil gets thicker, harder to startup, and when you see "blue smoke" that means oil leak to and burn by engine. A simple ... Read More
Nissan has a long history of engineering and manufacturing Constant Variable Transmissions (CVT) for their vehicles. I believe the early to mid '90s is when they first started using them in their vehicles outside of the US. It appears every single US-market Nissan model (except US-made trucks and SUVs) comes solely with, or has an option for, a CVT transmission. Durability-wise, I think the CVT has proven itself in the Murano, ... Read More

I meant to come back on here and update and kept forgetting. Firstly, we were taking it to an independent mechanic who told us the "service manual" called for 8 hours of labor, thus the ridiculous labor charges. He thought he could maybe get to it from under the hood but he wasn't sure. I would never take it to the dealer, esp the one we have here in town. They ... Read More
On another forum, an owner posted directions on how to replace the part and it seemed to work. He did the work himself. I'll post it later tonight. It did not take 8 hours.
Well don't let the dealer do the work! get prices, look for indy shop with lower hourly.
I think this is/will be a common problem with Quest moving forward. I've read of other owners having this same issue as you. What's scary is the 8 hours labor? That is simply ridiculous! $800 to replace a $22 part.
This is very similar to the problem we are experiencing with our '04 SL. We have been measuring the temp coming out of the vents, it ranges from 68-72 degrees (those are recirc temps) while driving. Idling it's worse than that. I started writing the temps down because I knew when I brought it in for service I would get the same "it's performing within specs" line. To compare, my husband ... rarbaugh: The temperatures seem like they are within acceptable range. The important question is how long does it take to cool down your van? Dsmguy, See my post 687. the Nissan Quest has horrible reliability with pathetic resale value. Infact it was the worst vehicle in 2004 as per CR. But never buy the Quest .Especially for 25k plus. Most horrible vehicle with a plethora ... Read More

If you don't need the nav/dvd [you don't] you can buy a brand new honda odyssey exl for a few grand more. There is no way you should even touch that nissan. It is a huge rip. avg deal on a 2010 exl is 31600. Check edmunds--truecar and others. Went to overstock.com and got a local guaranteed price of 31210 for a 2010. Get busy.
I'm looking at a fully loaded 2008 Quest SE (4500 miles)-DVD/Nav/. Pretty much has everything on it. Including the run flat tires which I don't like. It was purchased at a nissan fleet auction. Thanks Best Shot for the advice. I spoke to the dealer today. They say the noise is due to a hinge in the rear door. They finally decided to call the Nissan Tech line. I am just in the process of buying a 2008 SL. I have the sale on condition of the dealer fixing an annoying rattle from the back of the van. Can't tell where the rattle is coming from for sure. Is the effort worth it? Should I walk away from the deal?
It seems like Nissan was running a special back in August to unload all the 2008 Quests. As you can see from the post before yours, it was in the neighborhood of $7000. I don't hink Nissan is doing that anymore. $20,500 OTD (I'm assuming that is tax, registration, fees and car) seems like a great deal to me.
I have no idea and there is no way for me to know if they used expanding foam. I didn't talk to any tech or service manager to exactly explain to me in more details what they did...
Any idea if the tech put some expanding foam in the door or stuffed some loose fill foam in there? I've heard of people using a can of expanding foam from the big box hardware stores to pop out small dents (and people have probably popped some welds or dented their sheet metal playing with that stuff to).
Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I will bring it back to the dealer and will inform them of what your dealership did to your Quest. I will inform you of the outcome. Thanks again.
When I purchased my 04 Quest in May 2004, I also purchased the 5/60 extended warranty for $1100. The factory warranty was 3/36. At the end of 2008, I'm at the dealership and I learn that Nissan extended the warranty on the 04 Quest from 3/36 to 5/60 because it had so many problems. I never received any notice of this. If you use the Nissan 1.9% financing, you cannot get the rebate. The $3500 rebate is supposed to end on 9-2-08, but it probably will be extended.
