Let me start with this, before i end up getting everyone on here jumping on my back.. I drive about 100-150K miles a year. I work in the IT field as a tech that needs a van to carry equipment around. I tend to buy minivans because they are easier to see out of then wagons, get better MPG then SUV's and are easier to park then cargo vans. With that ... Read More
We are having this problem now, and it is causing some major rifts in the world. What can you tell me to help?
Hello, I took my van to the dealership for alignment. They sais they can not do it coz I need to replace front driver/pass lower control arm and that would cost $950.00(labor+parts). I didn't do it. I was not sure you can change just the ball joint on this 2004 quest??? I was just checking the control arm pricing on internet and it is lot lower than dealer and just came ... Read More

Actually we have been a Nissan fan for some years. Let's see, Had a 1991 Maxima, then 1993 Sentra, then 1996 Pathfinder, then a 2004 Maxima in 2004, then we down sized for a 2000 maxima. When we found out that we were expecting our first baby, we upgraded to a 2005 Nissan Murano in 2008, then realized, that we didn't need an SUV so down sized I guess to a ... Read More
Please send me the info regarding TSB NTB04-78.
There is a TSB for that issue on the 2004 Quest radios. Not sure if I can attach it or not, but the TSB is NTB04-78. Basically, the radio needs to be replaced. If you like, you can send me a PM and I can e-mail you a copy of the TSB so you can read it yourself.
The 2006 Odyssey is a nicer overall van than the 2007 Quest. And you're right that both have their share of problems. But the Odyssey is in higher demand and has higher resale value. One year later, my 2004 Quest is still chugging along. I had an issue with the camshaft position sensors last summer and (surprise, surprise) rotors! Never seen such poor brake design! Good luck!
My radio will either come on when I start the van or play a while and go off or not come on at all. Display still shows radio station is on, but radio doesn't play. Anyone got ideas on what this problem might be????
I recently bought a new 20011 Quest SL model with DVD package and I must say this is the nicest vehicle I have owned yet. I bought the 2004 Quest when it first came out and I thought it was different and interesting for its time but this Quest is far superior in build quality and comfort. The ride is so smooth and the CVT is very nice. Its unusual if ... Read More
We just had the rear brakes and pads replaced on our 2004 Quest. Our mechanic used NAPA parts. Honestly, I'm not sure any rotor will hold up any better. Nissan did a piss poor job with sizing the brakes for this vehicle esp. the 2004 models.
i have a 2004 nissan quest and the ac only blows cold when driving, once you sit at a light in idle the air stops working. I also notice the engine starts running hot , even to where it will overheat and i cant get it started until it cools down. Could this be my radiator fan, water pump? Where do i start, any ideas would help, thankyou email mozley44@yahoo.com
rarbaugh: The temperatures seem like they are within acceptable range. The important question is how long does it take to cool down your van? Remember the Quest has a large interior area to cool down. The size of the windows do not help with the cooling. Try running the AC on level 3 or 4 for a while (yeah, I know it is loud). Make sure the rear vents are in ... Read More

I just bought a used Nissan Quest SE 2004 with 76,000 miles. I noticed that the front and back rotors are kind of worn out looks like (grooves) created on the rotors. Where did you hear that Nissan extended the powertrain warranty to 100k miles for the 2004 Quest? It's one of those hidden warranties...ha. They didn't really advertise it, but, if you push the issue with customer service, they'll honor it. It was a customer service initiative. I tried to get them to send me something in writing, but, only could get an email, which I saved. They screwed with this forum ... Read More

The bushings on the front lower control arms are not serviceable. You have to replace the entire control arm (thank you Nissan). I got my control arms from www.partsgeek.com. They arrived in two days via ground shipping. I believe they cost me $445 for both front control arms. They are genuine OEM parts. I'm having very similar problems in my 2004 Quest. Earlier, I used to have situations where it seemed to get stuck in a higher gear and it looked like all the power wasnt getting transmitted to the wheels. Dsmguy, See my post 687. the Nissan Quest has horrible reliability with pathetic resale value. Infact it was the worst vehicle in 2004 as per CR. But never buy the Quest .Especially for 25k plus. Most horrible vehicle with a plethora ... Read More

The factory warranty on all 2004 Quests was extended in September 2004. You should have received a special letter from Nissan and a sticker to be placed in the owner's manual. I would call Nissan customer service and talk to them. they should have a record of the mailing. Getting ... Read More

This problem has plagued the Quest since 2004. About the only thing you can do is bring it back to the dealer since it is still under warranty. Before you bring it back in, make sure you don't have anything in the tracks. Be persistent.
What plashenick said and what I said originally. All 2004 Quests are covered by 5yr/60k extended bumper to bumper warranty. Your radio should be covered not unless you are out of warranty based on years. I would contact Nissan Customer Service.
All 2004 Quests had their bumper to bumper warranty extended from 3/36 to 5/60. This includes everything from the sliding doors, airbag, radio issues, etc. If a dealer will not honor contact Nissan USA. The dealer knows it is all covered. This was done as a result of the numerous issues with the doors and radio. I was one of the very first people to experience the radio issue and the ... Read More
Yes, we too have experienced the radio gremlins in our 04 Quest. I believe the 5 yr/60k extended warranty only applies to the power train. I would need to double check the notice I received. Nissan should replace/repair any defective units. When I told the service people about it they blew it off like it wasn't an issue that they had ever seen before.
The 2004 Quest are covered by a 5yr/60k miles bumper to bumper warranty. This was to address a number of quality issues with the first year model. We had the timing chain problem summer of '06 I believe. Yeap, it's costly. The dealer has a TSB and they should know what it is. The dealer here says they are seeing a lot of failures in all Nissan/Infinity 3.5 engines. Be aware that if you have a 2004 Quest, Nissan revised the powertrain warranty to 100k miles due to a 2004 customer service/satisfaction iniative. Mark 2004 Quest SE

I found the quest can start good on snow, but the poor weight ditribution (60/40) hurts its handling in snow. 2004-2007 has a full bench, the only difference is that you dont have to remove a single restrain to fold the seats unlike 2004-2006. The 3rd row can fold flat, but the 2nd row can only fold somewhat flat. (not a perfect flat cargo)
Since you have the 2004 - what's the back seat configuration in the 2004? Is it a full bench or a split 60/40? One more question - when you fold your seats down, do they fold flat into the floor or is that newer models? Thanks! Janet
Janet, we have a 2004 Quest (same series as the 2005-2008) and live in Minnesota, so get comparable snow to Chicago. I agree that tires make the huge difference. We have steep driveway and in heavy winter we have ... Read More

Looking into buying a used Quest SE 2004 or newer. One option that is a must is a DVD. If I find one without DVD is it difficult to add DVD? I know with the moon roof and everything probably only a specific size will fit??? Thanks
I was looking into a new Quest SE but they are too expnsive, so now I am looking into a used SE year 2004 or newer. What is the expected milage life of these vans? If they only typically last 100K miles then I would not want to buy one with 50K miles, but if they last 300K miles then that is a different story. Thanks
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I'm not sure that just because Chrysler/dodge has decided to use it that it will mean more choices. gord3...you must be a Canadian with the km...I use to live in Vancouver. Anyways, the reason the rears are wearing down faster than your front is because of the electronic brake assist system on our vans.
