2001 Nissan Quest Minivan SE 4dr Minivan (3.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

This is a decent vehicle with so-so amenities, but has a reliable engine. If you can find one with low mileage with a low price, here are a few things to look for that I have found at over 200,000 to date: have windows up and listen for engine when at idle and then at driving. Engine mounts tend to break easily. Check transmission oil pan for leaks. Check CV boots for tears, and listen for any clicking noises when you turn wheels while driving at parking lot speeds. Make sure A/C and fan(s) blow properly with no strange noises.

Best Features

Used to be the VCR when few other makes had anything, but DVD players are the hip thing now.

Worst Features

Nissan has addressed all the problems by finally canceling the contract with Ford and building the Quest itself.

2001 Nissan Quest Minivan SE 4dr Minivan (3.3L 6cyl 4A)

Review

The van is actually built by Ford, and although I have never associated true quality to Nissan, the product is more of a black eye to them, which probably explains their choice to cancel the joint project (Mercury Villager/Nissan Quest) with Ford Motor Co. The Quest was a great product in its first incarnation, but the second generation (this model) that started in '99 was ill prepared and obviously not given much attention, especially in the engine and transmission department. It has decent power, fairly good handling (at least the SE does), and offers decent room. The engine has held up quite well with nearly 190,000 miles on it, and the only major problem was a broken tranny oil pan.

Best Features

One of the first vehicles with entertainment system, although it came with VCR, but it was back in '01. Has good handling for a minivan (the SE does), and it's shorter, narrower and lighter than the Odyssey, Sienna and others.

Worst Features

Nissan kinda knew this thing wasn't working, which is why they stopped allowing Ford to build it and finally put in all the stuff that the other had, including more power, torque, room, styling and features.

Review

I bought this car new as I thought it would last a long time. The engine and transmission are mechanically sound, but I have replaced the drive shafts twice. The side window latches do stick. I have had work done on the power windows. I do plan on keeping this car for another few years. The VCR screen did break after 4 years.

Best Features

Style, cargo space.

Worst Features

Side window latches, window tracks.

Review

Very reliable, only problem was VCR & it was under warranty. Very comfortable on long trips, video and lots of power outlets for kids stuff is great. 19 mpg in town.

Best Features

Video & outlets great for travel.

Worst Features

Needed more power, new Quest fixed that. 21 mpg highway could also be better. some paint issues on the plastic.

Review

This has been a very reliable vehicle for my family. I've had very few problems with it. Most problems has been in the door locks or hardware.

Best Features

Very comfortable. When friends get together for an event they always want me to drive because I can fit 6 adults comfortably.

Worst Features

Door actuators and hardware need upgrade - they are not reliable!
