Hi. I see your message is from 2010. After you fixed the truck, did the problem ever happen again? Also, would you happen to know if replacing the trans is absolutely necessary or is rebuilding it enough? Thank you
Hi Car Man - Need some help negotiating a least on at 2013 Pathfinder SL. Our lease is about up on our Nissan Altima (2010) coming in under miles. Originally Nissan told us $3000 down and $669/month which I find is ridiculous. We told them we wanted to be at around a $500 car payment. They came back with $4000 down and $579/month. I have seen on here people putting down ... Read More
Also your fuel gauge will stop working around 40k miles. It is also in the gas tank. There was a recall for it. I would suggest taking care of both things at the same time, since both require to take down your gas tank. My wife and purchased a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder with 104,000 miles on it. The second day after purchasing it, the vehicle wouldn't start and we were 2-1/2 hours away from home. After having it towed to the nearest Nissan dealership, some 30-minutes away, the service technician informed us the transmission and engine coolant had mixed causing the vehicle not to start. After the initial cost to diagnose the problem, he estimated ... Read More

Ok. Im sorry to hear you are having these problems with Nissan! For one, they know EXACTLY what the problem is. So, you need to go back to that Nissan, go to the highest level at the location and request ALL of your money because you will need it to replace your transmission. I had a Nissan do the same to me, flush the fluid...charged me when they knew the issues ... Read More
if enough owners complained to the NTSB and reported the situation then the NTSB may start investigation into the vehicle and force Nissan to recall the situation. I know there is the start of a class action against Nissan (See page 51) because of the situation. I agree it should be a recall cause the situation is common from 2004-2010 Pathfinders, Fronteers and Xterras.
I have been informed by mechanics and from the extended warranty website ( http://www.nissanassist.com/web/Radiator/index.php?menu=20 ), that it affects 2005-2010 Frontiers, Pathfinders and Xterras. Not all of them though, just a small percentage, but not sure what the number is. A salesman tried to say it only affected 2005, but he was obviously not very knowledgable since the 2006 I took in for an inspection had the problem, including many others on ... Read More
Look at page 52 of this forum. This is the first I am hearing about a Nissan lawsuit when it comes to the 2004-2010 Pathfinders. Contact that user for the information.
Ok I can't say I would never buy Nissan again, but did Nissan fix this problem? My pathfinder is an '07, I'd consider getting a 2010 if problem had been addressed, other wise I guess I'll look into Armada issues, if any. But if anyone know what years exactly this issue is happening to that would get me a little bit ahead of the game when I take this to Nissan ... Read More
1) From the allegations in the law suit.....covers 2005 - 2010 Pathfinders. 2) From a few who have posted the same issues who have 2010 models.
Well, I know a Jen Brown in northeast Texas...hope that is not you. But, anyway...you get to join the ranks of 100's of Pathfinder, Frontier, and Exxtera owners with the exact problem. As I understand, Nissan continued the same faulty installation thru the 2010 model year. There have been 2007, 08s, and 09s who have reported the same problem. The issue began with the 2005 year. Ours is a 2006 model ... Read More
In regards to the look of the 2013, it's very disappointing. This was one of the last tough, boxy SUVs left and it has finally sold out and become a crossover. It makes me love my 2010 even more!

I just emailed the lawyer above at KGG in regards to my 2007 Pathfinder. Had the same issue and needed a new radiator and tranny which Nissan did cover, however they made me pay a deductible and charged me for a loaner. I got off relatively easy I guess compared to others but still, Nissan isn't being helpful about any of this!! I would like to join the suit if possible. ... Read More
I'd report this issue (Nissan) to the Better Business Bureau at: https://odr.bbb.org/odrweb/public/ComplaintRedirect.aspx?military=1
Your radiator is leaking coolant into the transmission. The first symptom is exactly what you describe. Another dead give-away is that Nissan extended the radiator only to 80k miles because they know that nearly all will fail after 80k miles. Try driving in 4th gear (no over-drive). You will see the problem go away for a little while until the damage gets worse and then you will loose 4th gear. Draining ... Read More
I have a Pathfinder 2006 with 110,000 miles. My transmission started making noises and problem shifting. took it to a mechinic for a quick check and verification and find out the radiator has leaked to the transmission. Since I have 110000 miles on the SUV there is no way Nissan will fix a defect that they engineered. Shame on Nissan. That will be the last car I ever buy from them. ... Read More

Now has been about 15 k (including the camper towing) since I flushed the tranny (about 20 qts) and replaced the radiator. No tranny rebuild. replaced 4 qts of Matic S about a month ago just for good measure (old looked ok). Runs/shifts ok, no apparent problem remains. Cant speak to potential long term effects, that's why I continue to update this forum. Nissan reimbursed me for radiator and a shxtload ... Read More
Our Transmission failed in our 05 Nissan Pathfinder in July 2010, we took it into a local transmission shop, they found radiator fluid in our tranny. We went straight to Nissan they said they knew nothing of their radiators being defective and hadn't heard of anyone elses transmission shuttering around 50 mph. So we shelled out $5000 and had our transmission replaced, Nissan didnt have any newer radiators so the shop ... Read More
We had the same problem I have read about here with our 2005 Pathfinder. We had to have the transmission replaced in June 2010. We, as well as the transmission mechanic called Nissan to ask about an extented warranty and were told there was none. We had to take out a loan and I'm not exaggerating to say it was an awful time for our family. My husband saw a friend ... Read More
I finally brought my 2006 Pathfinder into the dealer after reading these posts for a few months. My truck with 70k miles started shuttering between 40-50mph. I drained about 4 quarts of transmission fluid out and it was slightly milky. I realize there's another 8 quarts and the whole flush process, but I wasn't about to do all that. Anyway, after the simple 4 quart switch, things were actually a little ... Read More

Hi Carman, Do you know what the money factor is for a 2010 Pathfinder SE w/ Premium Journey Package? It's for a 12k miles lease for 39 months.
Very good compression. I am in a market to buy a new 2010 TE 4Runner and I am still in agreement with you. Wrt reliability, I have a 1993 4Runner since brand new and I am hoping somewhat of similar results. So this is more for folks shopping used since Toyota recently released their revised 2010 4Runner. I gave the 2010 a look and while some things are improved, it's bigger, slower, and overall couldn't convince me to cough up the extra dough to go new.
