Summary

What Edmunds.com says

With plenty of power, off-road capability and luxury, this is one of the best midsize SUVs available.

Pros

Powerful V6 engine, car-like interior, good reliability record, rear entertainment system option, available Infiniti All-Mode 4WD on LE models.

Cons

Tight rear seat, high price tag, cheap interior bits.

What's New for 2001

A long overdue 250-horsepower V6 engine debuts for 2001, making Pathfinder the most powerful SUV in its class. An interior freshening and more standard goodies, as well as snazzy options like an in-dash navigation system and an entertainment system for rear-seat occupants, are new for 2001. Also added to the LE's options list this fall is the handy All-mode automatic 4WD system from the Infiniti QX4.

Review

We purchased a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE brand new in 2000 and after almost 10 years it's still reliable, fun, and modern-looking. For an SUV it gets decent gad mileage. It's very easy and fun to drive and rides smoothly. We've had a few problems over the years, but it's held up pretty well. The leather interior is still in good shape and looks nice. The outside has its fair share of dings and scratches but also holds up well. We plan on keeping it for years to come.

Favorite Features

Heated power seats, good-looking, reliable, fun

Suggested Improvements

Heavy front doors, some exterior accents beginning to look dated

Review

We bought the Pathfinder after owning a GMC Yukon thinking "this will be more sporty and get better gas mileage." We were right about the sportiness part of SUV but found the utility lacking because of the small size and the gas mileage being actually worse than the larger Yukon/Tahoe. It is a nice vehicle with comfortable leather front seats, but the backseat is horrible and really only fit for kids. I guess it's all relative to what a person's needs are so if the size is not an issue then I would recommend this as a good vehicle to have. We've kept it for 8 years so it wasn't too bad of an experience. Replaced oxygen sensor with Maxima sensor for 20% of the pathfinder price 3 yrs ago.

Favorite Features

Smooth engine and nice handling. Solid build and great reliability. 4 wheel drive traction.

Suggested Improvements

Junk the faulty Clarion 6 disk cd changer. Improve the backseat.

Review

My '01 pathfinder was the best investment I ever made. My kids and wife love the comfort. I've had this car for 8 years now, and the only problem with it was the spoiler had to be replaced in '07. Otherwise, it was the best car EVER!!!!!!! It has a lot of pep in the engine. It acts like a truck, practically is a truck, but the amount of power in the engine makes it act like a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. This is a great choice for a family car. Extremely comfortable, reliability is great, and my only complaint is gas mileage.

Favorite Features

Comfort, performance, fun to drive, pep in the engine, design (interior), quality, and reliability.

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage. I get 14-16 in town, and 20 at most on the high way.

Review

Although i like the way they build the car exterior and interior wise, i do not like the way they have so much problems. When i bought the car in 2001 to a total of 42,433 grand, i though i will get a quality vehicle, i was wrong. I bought the state of the line entertainment system, lo jack and a push bar, all have failed me. My BOSE 6 CD changer doesn't work, keeps on getting the error "err2" which means disk stuck, push bar is poor quality and the lo jack doesn't work. I though i would get a good car but this car breaking down every time. replaced the windshield washer motors 8 times and still doesn't work and the step bar is corroded and the transmission is going only at 52343. Do not buy

Favorite Features

Leather seats

Suggested Improvements

Better entertainment system. Bose 6CD changer is a joke. VHS Entertainment system is broken along with the windshield washer motor keeps on braking with one use. Standard Bridge stone tires are not reliable and not safe.Motor for the power seat breaks. Dont buy the car

Review

I bought this vehicle with 15k miles on it and currently have 257k miles logged. Other than the usual wear and tear that all cars through this one has performed fantastically well. Mileage is 17 mpg city/hwy/4wd it doesn't matter. It is comfortable to drive and has plenty of get up and go for freeway driving and great stability when off road. The majority of my driving is highway and this vehicle will cruise at 75-80 and never miss a beat.

Favorite Features

Power, 6CD changer and seats.

Suggested Improvements
