Good Afternoon everyone. I have a 1999.5 Nissan Pathfinder with 243K miles on it. I have had the vehicle for 11 years following the maintenance schedule. Body is in good shape and she still runs well. Recently the vehicle has begun to misfire and then shut off. The service engine light is also on. Any idea on what the issue may be? Any insight will be appreciated.
I have a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder with 96,000 miles. There are noises coming from the rear suspension. It sounds as if it it bottoming out sometimes when crossing railroad tracks or hitting potholes or expansion joints. It has been doing this for at least a couple of years. I got new shocks and it seemed to quiet down just for a couple of months and then came back. Saturday a new ... Read More
I think this is the post: switchfixer, "Nissan Pathfinder Electrical Problems" #79, 18 Mar 2008 7:58 am I have a similar switch in my '99 Quest and it was replaced under warranty early on. The other day the turn signals quit but simply shutting the van off and restarting it seemed to fix it (don't remember flipping the switch but maybe I did). Next time I'll try Switchfixer's trick. My power ... Read More
I removed factory rack from my 2003 SE several years ago and replaced with Yakima. I still have the rack to possibly be reinstalled when I sell the Pathfinder since it is good looking, but not very functional. I want to buy what Yakima dealer said are the four rail end caps from 1999-2004 XE or LE. Nissan parts and junk yards I have located will only sell complete rack. Any ... Read More
Yikes, from what I've seen here, there are a lot of problems with Pathfinders. :( I've a 1999 model on which the battery will go dead if not driven for a day or so. What circuits/systems connected full-time to the battery might be causing this? I've done a resistance test on the alternator output terminal, reading 640 ohms one direction, nothing the other direction [flipping the ohmmeter leads]. This tells me ... Read More
I got 2008 LE 4x4 with all the bells and whistle except DVD for 1/3 off the sticker price so the cost was $27,500 plus tax original cost was a little over $41,0000. Got rid of a 1999 Mitsu Montero with 190K miles. Happy Pathfinder owner.
I have a '99 pathfinder and it won't turn over. I get NO spark and have installed a new rotor AND distributor cap but still does not start. I get 12V out from the coil to the cap....can anyone help me with this ASAP!!!! Thanks
My 1999 nissan pathfinder is having a little bit of trouble starting up, when i turn the ignition to start the vehicle it takes about 4-6 turns (sometimes more)for the vehicle to actually turn over... from there i have no problems anywhere. I dont know if it's the starter or what... but does anyone have any wise bit of info or solution for me?
i recently purchased a 1999.5 nissan pathfinder with 80k miles. i decided to change the spark plugs the other day, what a mistake. does anyone know how to reach that one plug in back of the motor? also, three of the plugs are stripped, and i can't get them out. any ideas??? please let me know. thanks!
Have 1999 Nissan Pathfinder SE so far have replaced transmission, Crank shaft pulley, Idler pulley, Battery, Alternator, Spark plugs, Air filter, Fuel filter. Now this isn't all at once the most recent was I admit I am one that likes to see the orange fuel light come on then drive another 50 miles. I have a 1995 pathfinder XE. Recently this perplexing problem with the rear suspension on my vehicle started to occur. When the vehicle hasn't been driven for a few hours, and especially when it's cold outside, I hear a clunk when I get in the driver's seat, or push down on the rear bumper. It seems to come from somewhere around the driver's side rear wheel. The suspension on this side ... Read More
Has anyone experienced this problem? On Thanksgiving Day, my wife and I were driving on a back road in Pennsylvania when we encountered snow & ice. We turned the dial on our 2005 Pathfinder and it went into 4WD with no problem. Once we came to dry & safe road, we tried to go back to 2WD by turning the knob back. However, the liquid crystal display continued to flash (in ... Read More
Personally I agree that owning a Pilot and an MDX would be kind of silly, but I know families that own 2 of the SAME car so it's not that far fetched. My wife drove a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan for 4 years and 90,000 miles and then switched to a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT V8 with the 3d row seat. We loved the room of the Dodge minivan and it ... I almost had the same trouble, went to 4 dealers in South Florida late February before finally finding one who would honour the Nissan website offer. I ordered the 2005 Pathfinder LE 4X4 with Navi and DVD, $429/mo, 39 mo, 12k/yr, $1999 down, which works out to about $2000/$2500 off the $39k MSRP. Reasonable. They didn't have my preferred color, and wanted me to accomodate to their inventory, or order, without ... Read More
After 10 years of driving Eddie Bower Explorers (1995 and 1999 models) I needed a change. I couldn't bring myself to buy yet another Ford Explorer and have the same problems pop up at the same mileage over and over again. We just leased an 05 pathfinder SE with premium pkg, comfort pkg, and dvd player. We did the whole deal over the internet and the salesman drove it 4 hours to my house to complete the paper work. 1999 Pathfinder 2WD 177,000 miles. My service engine soon light came on yesterday. Nissan Dealer ran computer check and came up with O2 Sensor and Catalytic Converter need to be replaced. $1200-$1500 repair bill!! Anyone had experience with aftermarket parts(Not Nissan)for these two items? Also could bad O2 Sensor cause bad read out for the Catalytic Converter?
www.irontoad.com. It's under the Nissan/Pathfinder/2003 link, but there is no difference between the model years after 1999.5. Cost is ~$62 plus shipping. It's an easy do it yourself. Gently pry off the interior trim piece with a flat blade screwdriver to expose the screws. Replace one side at a time! Takes all of 15 minutes. And it does do an amazing job at keeping the rear window clear.
Well, I talked to Nissan Canada, and they will not stand behind their product. They wouldn't give me the time of day. The tranny experts are telling me they've rebuilt quite a few Pathfinder tranny's lately even on the 1999 models due to radiator cooler failure, which in turn blows out the tranny over time..go figure. The cooler is made with plastic fins for God's sake, which melts over time!!!! I'm ... Read More
We came across a 1999.5 Pathfinder 4WD SE with 41,500 miles, 5 speed manual . . . There is one major dent that is rusting near the running boards and some minor rust spots (almost pin - size). We would be purchasing from a Nissan ... Read More

BigOrange, you need to compare fairly here. You picked the 2001 Nissan (with a much lower amount of TSBs than 2000), yet compared it to the 2000 GC. And no, the 2000 GC is NOT "the latest model available" - there are indeed listings for 2001 and 2002. You need to go back and select the 2000 Nissan and break out the 85 TSB's listed, instead of the 36 listed for ... Read More
For 2002, I would actually say that the LE would have a sportier ride due to the 17" rims. But pre-2002 models (1999(?) to 2001), all Pathfinder models employ the same suspension. It is a misconception that the Pathfinder follows the Nissan nomenclature for SE models having a sportier/firmer suspension, because it does not. Please check the Pathfinder brochure carefully, I think you will find that there is no mention of ... Read More

Has anyone purchased the recently (earlier this year) redesigned bug deflector for the 1999.5 - 2001 Pathfinder yet? I bought one, and I ended up returning it because it didn't cover the entire front of the car - it wasn't wide enough. It stopped short of covering the front of the fenders, leaving them exposed to rocks. Every other bug deflector out there either wraps around or covers the front of ... Read More

I own a 99 Pathfinder, and I did not purchase the tow package when I bought the SUV. Thanks in advance.
It is my understanding from MotorTrend that the PF and Infiniti QX4 will be re-designed for the 2003 model year, which will be available next year. (Both of these vehicles will be made larger.) Typically, Nissan releases re-designed vehicles early. For example: The 2002 Q45 is available now. The 2000 Maxima went on sale in the spring/summer of 1999. Therefore, I expect the 2003 re-designed PF to be available in the ... Read More

I have heard that the PF will be redesigned for the 2003 model. I have been considering a PF but per my earlier post here, I feel that the 2001 model falls a little short (rear drum brakes, cramped rear seat, limited headroom, narrow rear entry doors etc). I suspect that the 2002 model will not change at all from 2001 model since a major redesign is due in 2003. Unless ... Read More

Regretfully, I took Nissan to arbitration over the shimmy problem on my 1999.5 PF. I really liked the car but the shimmy drove me crazy. Nissan insisted it was normal - the rep didn't even test drive my car. Personally, I think that their focus on the tires is all wrong. There is something going on in the drivetrain. Whenever the shimmy started ( between 60-70 mph) the truck would track ... Read More
