1994 Nissan Pathfinder 4 Dr SE 4WD Wagon
Review
I bought my used one-owner, well maintained Pathfinder in 2002. I've put over 50,000 trouble free miles on the truck since I purchased it. Current mileage is 96,000. I've crept along on rough, rutted desert roads many times with out getting stuck. Turning in tight areas takes lots of work. My best highway mileage was slightly over 20 mpg. Combined street/highway mileage is about 17. The engine works hard to push the truck on hills. It could use another 20-30 horsepower. The cup holders were an after thought. The radio speakers are odd sized and it is difficult to find after market replacements. I like the Pathfinder's ruggedness and boxy design.
Favorite Features
High ground clearance; full off road package--skid plates; limited slip differential; four wheel disk brakes.
Suggested Improvements
Would have liked more power and a more efficient fuel system.

Still love the exterior design of the car much more than the more recent models. Classic design. Seats are comfortable, dash is easy to read, cargo space is ample, and tires are great. Gas mileage is horrible. Have often taken it on road trips and it costs me an arm and a leg. Acceleration is about as slow as could be. Often take to the mountains and have to drive in the slow lane with my emergencies on.

Gas mileage. No pick-up at all.

I bought it new, it is now my oldest son's car and it is still going. After timing chain change at 100k, it still is running ok. Just needs some cosmetics and A/C work. I'm impressed.
Favorite Features
Just the ability to have a good solid vehicle that is now a second generation vehicle.
Suggested Improvements
If you are into "do-it-yourself" it was not designed for people with large hands. Tight fit even to change the oil. A little more powerful engine and the knocks!

I bought this vehicle used from a coworker in 2005 and it had 127,000 on it. Well, one transmission and $2,200 later, it has about 147,800. It's a slow truck but reliable. The front seats are truly uncomfortable and need some type of better lumbar support. I worry about the transmission going out again and will be looking for tranny cooler. I just had the exhaust manifold replaced with the tranny last hear. The exhaust is leaking again!! It's not worth fixing. It will just have to hear the noise. This truck doesn't turn very well either. The gas mileage is horrible!! On the highway, you get about 263 miles on a full tank. City driving, you pray you get 180-200 miles on a full tank.
Favorite Features
Heated seats and the sun roof. The reclining rear seats for long trips..
Suggested Improvements
Fix the gas mileage, the exhaust and the transmission and you might give Toyota 4 Runner a run for the money.

I took my 1994 Nissan Pathfinder over from my brother a number of years ago and it now has nearly 200,000 miles on it. Other than regular maintenance and a cracked exhaust manifold (fixed for $400), I have not had a single problem. this truck is fantastic off road, great around town, and acceptable on the highway. I use it for work, commuting, and offroad driving in the moutains while biking.
Favorite Features
A tough vehicle that takes a beating and doesn't blink. Awesome off road capability and great to drive around town.
Suggested Improvements
Better front seats - they aren't comfortable on long trips.
