But then, your point is, cheap car for 1st driver - a Saturn would fit that need, and they don't have any special problems that aren't pretty common in all GM junk. I replaced my wife's Nissan Maxima with a a 2008 Saturn Aura XR and has outperfomed it in every category including reliability...except for handling.

I have heard nothing, but excellent reviews on the Nissan Maxima. I had a 2004 Nissan Altima and never had a problem with the Altima other than changing the fuses. I could not afford the newer model Maxima; However I was able to purchase a 2008 Altima at 23,000. The next day the transmission failed and the car was towed back to Nissan. Any suggestions? :(

I didn't realize my comparison between the 2009 maxima and 2009 TL exterior appearance would generate such discussion. I simply was just comparing the exterior appearance and changes. Black on Black Maximas are very rare finds....then again, I live in the nice warm south where such a color combination is NOT in high demand. I find it interesting that you would prefer a "real" automatic transmission to the Maxima's CVT. I thought the most favorable impressions of the CVT came from those that view it as better/smoother than a slushbox automatic. With a gun to my head, even I'd probably take the CVT over Nissan's previous automatic transmssions. Although if and when I ever get tired of shifting, hopefully whatever I opt for will have ... I’ve seen some recent posts that claim acceleration figures for the 09 Maxima, and also the BMW 328i and an older 90s model Maxima. Hi ucjjg. Kcbny is right. NMAC's current buy rate lease money factor for the 2008 Maxima is a terrible .00280 right now. That's the bad news. The Maxima's loss of sales was symptomatic of its overall transition into a very boring car. Sure - those that would only buy a car with a manual tranmission were part of the many that jumped ship. Ok so everyone or almost everyone has some criticism of Nissan for the design of the outgoing 2008 Maxima body style, and I am sure we remember the controversial comments made about the front grill when the car hit the streets in 2004 (looked like bugs bunny's front teeth in the middle of the grille, also reminiscent of prior Oldsmobile models of the 80s). I think I can sum up your beef against the '09 Maxima as being that a) there is no manual tranmission available and b) Nissan's marketing spin refers to it as a 4DSC. That's pretty close. Maxima Fans, Today's USA Today newspaper contained a full review of the 2009 Maxima. Overall, a positive review with some minor gripes. Let me be as clear as possible. A CVT transmission and a "4-Door Sports Car" are mutually exclusive. Period. If Nissan is going to label the Max as such, they should at least have the integrity to offer it in a proper manual transmission. Living in western NY one would think Nissan would ship Maxima's with the VDC package--haven't been able find a one.
