Thought I would add my two cents for those who own or are considering a Maxima. I am coming out of a 2006 Mazdaspeed6 which I sold due to some recurring mechanical failings. In any event, I wanted a more adult car but didnt want to buy from a luxury brand. Cant have my employers thinking I make too much money. So I have always been a Maxima fan and got ... Read More
One thing you might consider to stay within budget is to expand your search beyond Toyotas and Nissans, which tend to have higher resale values, to some comparable cars with lower resale values. Still good reliable cars, but less money. Examples are 2001+ Elantras (comparable interior volume to the Maxima, but compact outside and much lower price) and 2006+ Sonatas, and 2006.5+ Optimas. You should be able to find some of ... Read More
Time to replace your shocks and struts. Had the exact same problem on my '07. Go to KYB and by the GR-2 shocks. They made the car handle like new and got rid of that annoying ride issue. Also, two of them were leaking oil so no doubt they werent working right. The KYB shocks were a bit heavier than the Nissan shocks so I think probably a bit more durable. ... Read More

Couldn't disagree more on the face styling. I've owned a 2003 and currently own a 2006. The 2003 looked great from profile and from the front, but looked odd and perhaps even a bit "cheap" from behind. The 2006 nose design is far too mainstream for this car and the grill is ugly. It almost stopped me from buying the car, but the deal I got was too good to pass ... Read More
I've heard that same sound in two previous generations of the Maxima (2003 and 2006), and both times it turned out to be a failed tie-rod end. When they fixed the 2003, the dealer told me it was a common failure. In 2006, they wouldn't admit that to be the case, but seems to me that if I had the same thing happen in two different installments, then Nissan might have ... Read More

My 2006 Maxima was a nice car initially. At 21,000 miles, my tire(s) went out of round. It felt tlike the tire weights had fell off. The only solution is to replace all four tires, since you can't really replace one tire. The tires were Continental rejects I think. So, I bought 4 Michelins at Costco, cost just under $900.
