    Stay away from the Maxima -- the 04-06 auto transmission will give you problems sooner or later and also the 04-08 engine's timing chain tensioners have a crappy design so both of those are costly repairs (check out forums.maxima.org and look around there) -- look for clean 02-03's they should be less problematic or an 07+ I had a 95 Maxima for my first car (my dad bought it in 2003) ...     I had a 2003 Maxima SE and had to have my O2 sensors replaced after the Check Engine light came on. Luckily for me, it was still under warranty at the time (makes you wonder when a part like this fails at the 20k mileage point). Perhaps a common point of failure?

    You should really buy new rims if you're not going to buy the "standard" size tire. Personally, I bought 4 Bridgestone Turanza LS-Vs (GREAT tire, BTW, destroys the Potenzas) for around $550-600 installed. IMO, this really isn't a car you want to put cheap tires on.

    my guess nissan is moving maxima up market to position against Avalon. Since Avalon has no manual tranny, nissan chose same thing. I agree with kwk1 Altima is really next generation of maxima after 2003. I also wish that 07 maxima had more HP(270+)and AWD.

    I feel for you. I have a friend who had the headlamps stolen from her RX300 - parked on her driveway! I also know quite a few folks that have had their Maxima lights stolen. Recently, I saw a CTS that also had the same thing happen - and it only had halogen bulbs, not HID. Do you live in the NY/NJ Metro area?

    Someone should also get their act together at Lexus: the stolen headlights on my RX400h cost $8400 (!!!) to repair. And, of course, Lexus (dealer and corporate) deny any responsibility. It takes less than a minute to pop those suckers out - how is it not a defect? And we'll see if their fix is as effective as Nissan's.

    My understanding is that Nissan was building as many Maxima's as they could. Basically being able to shift between Altimas and Maximas on the assembly line. I did see that Nissan is offering a $2500 rebate on remaining 2003 Altimas, Sentras, Frontier, Xterra and Pathfinders.

    2000-2003 have a lot of changes for one Nissan Upgraded the brakes for 02 and they have larger rotors etc and arent as problematic as the 00/01's. The tranny issue was for 00 that Nissan had and with the 02/03 their hasnt been now where near the problems, the 95-99 isnt known for the best trannies out their lots of issues with them mainly the auto.     Man, your really down on Nissan dealers aren't you? My typing mistake on the timing of the events. The Murano was bought a year later July 26, 2003. The coil repair was in July 2002. The two events are not linked, except that I went back to the dealer and bought another vehicle from them FYI, Most dealers actually charge the retail price to their customers, not their cost price.

    The 95-99 Maximas have 190hp and 205 ft-lb of torque. My 1995 SE 5-speed weighs almost exactly 3,000 lbs.     I'll break rank with aromas and suggest you may be better off with a loaded Maxima SE 6-speed. Here's why: 1. For a FWD sedan, the 2003 Maxima SE is as good as it gets and it's an exceptional value with the current incentives.
