2001 Nissan Maxima GLE 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 4A)
Very expensive to repair. Complete brakes over $1000, Alternator $1000, Check engine light, coil, o2 & Knock sensor's $1000 and counting. Clock to small and located in the wrong place, Small trunk, seats tear easily. Can't get sticker with check engine light always on.
The Maxima is not the problem, the place who is quoting you these ridiculous prices is.
I bet you went to a dealer.
A replacement alternator is $160, shouldn't be more than a $400 repair if you get a 3rd party alternator and have it serviced somewhere that's not the dealership.
You have to either learn to do your own repairs or take the car to an independent garage.
Case in point. My friend owns a Mini Cooper with around 50K miles on it.
Dealer said it needed brake pads (and rotors) all the way around. Dealer quoted price of about $1400 which is outrageous.
My friend ordered new pads AND rotors (online) Total cost around $300. Took about half a day to do. Net savings...around $1000. Oh and by the way, the rear pads had at least 2 years of life left and the rotors were fine with no signs of metal to metal contact.
I would never take my car to a dealer for repairs. Never have and never will.
