    I have a 2008 Nissan Maxima. I just got some work done to it and the sunroof didn't slide open and close, but it would go up and down. I opened it, then closed it, then held the close button down for about 5 seconds and I'll be damned if it started sliding open and close. It worked!!! Thanks for the post.

    Just letting you all know that, in the final analysis, this $2865 repair quoted by the dealer was nowhere near justified. To the guys that suggested putting in two oxygen sensors in bank 1...you were correct.     Try rockauto.com, they have the parts you are looking for. The coil cost from $52 to $66 each depending on if it is the front or rear coil(3 front, 3 rear). I have ordered several items for my 07 Prius, and I am now looking to order other parts for my 07 Maxima. Their prices are very reasonable.

    02 sensors are not a common failure on this model. The P0420 & P0430 are catalyst failures not 02 sensors failures. Ignoring a P0420 & P0430 can cause engine failure.

    Thanks to all who have responded so far. I did the battery disconnect a couple months ago but the issue keeps coming back. The dealer says the ECU is posting P0420 and P0430 errors. The ECU was flashed in 2002 so it has the latest code with the fix for NTB00-070a (Service Bulletin to address computer incorrectly posting P0420 code).     I have 01 Infiniti I 30...essentially same car. The Check engine light comes on very easily on these. Disconnect the battery cable and leave it overnight. It will reset the computer. Filling the gas on a hot day and not closing the cap properly can also cause this.

    I have an '01 and haven't replaced any of those things. If the car is running fine, I would just ignore the codes. I would think that if the sensor were bad the car would not be running well.

    I had a 2003 Maxima SE and had to have my O2 sensors replaced after the Check Engine light came on. Luckily for me, it was still under warranty at the time (makes you wonder when a part like this fails at the 20k mileage point). Perhaps a common point of failure?

    The reset procedure for the sunroof on my 02 Maxima is to tilt the sunroof open then tilt it closed again. Once closed hold the tilt close button for a few seconds. This resets the slide control. If your sunroof is stuck in the open position you can use the tilt open/close to wiggle it back to closed.

    I have taken the switch down already. Each individual switch is far from water proof. Each switch has two-three small screws that hold the printed curcuit board in place. Each of these printed curcuit boards is also how the various wires enter the switch.     The switch does not come apart. Both switches are on same mount bracket (2 screws) and are sealed. You can test the switch with ohm meter where wiring harness attaches. The entire dome light and switch "pop" off by pulling down on the right hand edge of the switch/light plastic housing (pull on down on passenger side edge).     It sounds like your idle air control valve has gone bad. The rough idling is because the valve is not controling the airflow well. Here is an article on how to replace the idle air control valve.     Future major maintenance will depend on what preventative maintenance has been done already. Ask the owner for his maintenance log. If dealer maintained, you should be able to get a maintenance printout from any Nissan dealer. Our 2001 GLE has 71k on it and to me it's worth more than $11k. Sounds like a decent deal if it's been maintained. Hope this helps. :) Dave

    I have used 3 Toyota's before I purchased to 2004 Maxima . I have changed brakes for Corolla @20K miles. Sienna @35K miles and Camry @29k miles. So far I am very much satisfied with Maxima performance. As per your note, looks like I have to change brakes like I did to my Toyota's before.
