I bought a used 2000 Nissan Maxima today. After PA state inspection and county emissions inspection, I drove it home. THEN I went to take my little girl somewhere this afternoon, now the check engine light, SLIP light and TCS ... Read More
Hi, I have recently replaced a bad battery (it had a small crack in it around the negative terminal). My car sometimes starts automatically and other times takes several cranks to start. The engine has roughly 139000 miles on it. I had the starter tested at the parts store and it passed. I then took a reading when it started it had 12v at the starter and when it didn't it ... I'd figure about 4.5 hours total. There may be some time-saving in doing all three. I'm not so sure I agree with the way you are planning to do this, however. Most shops don't take all that kindly to having parts brought in from outside, and even if they are amenable to that, they will not warranty the labor should the part fail---so in other words, if you buy the part ... Hi Nissan Maxima experts, I'm currently looking to replace the 3 motor mounts that have broken on my Nissan Maxima 2000 automatic, including the lower cradle mount (in between the right and left mount), the right passenger side mount, and the left radiator side mount. Hi ahashmi, thanks I tried that site I think it sounds better than putting $2000 out of pocket and paying $315 monthly however I don't think they would take my 10 maxima s and pay off Nissan roughly 26 payments of $309 and still keep the payments at $295. I don't know if the dealership can match that price either buy if they can reduce the $2000 to $1000 or close ... Read More

I had the same problem. Nissan garage couldn't figure it out because they wouldn't drive it long enough for it to happen. It turned out to be the vehicle speed sensor, a/k/a revolution sensor. There are 2 parts called "speed sensor" - Make sure you get the one that goes on the transmission, not on the axle. It will fix your problem.

When I had an EGR Valve tube clogged up, the car was mostly stalling on cold mornings and was shaking real bad before eventually stalling. If yours cuts off without any shaking then this can definitely be something else... Good luck and don't you wonder ... Read More
no, you need to remove intake manifold to get to the EGR Valve pipe, which often clogs up. On the bright side, once the manifold is removed you get to replace the manifold gaskets and really clean the throttle body (by actually takinng it off the vehicle with the manifold). You also get easy access to rear valve cover and so you can easily replace the valve cover oil gaskets as ... Read More
Wow that was a quick reply, thank you. However the car is more inclined to cut off when it is warm. And this is when it is turned on. It doesn't happen while I am driving or anything like that. Finally since I don't have all that knowledge is checking the EGR Valve passages something that can been done relatively easily? Can I find how on the internet or would you ... Read More
if the problem goes away as the car warms up then check EGR Valve passages, they often clog up with time, they need to be cleaned.
I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima. It likes to cut off after I start it. I turn the key and the rpm needle goes up and then comes down. It won't cut off when I am turning it on for the first time of the day. It seems like the more I turn the engine on the more likely it is to cut off until I let it rest for a ... Read More
I got the infamous P1320 code with no other codes so there is no way to know which cylinder misfired. I actually know how the code came on - I felt the rpms drop momentarily on a red light a few times. It only happenned a few times. I had the code reset and inspected all coils myself. The part numbers for front (left) coils are 22448-2Y005 and for the rear ... Read More
Hi Folks, I am owning 05 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL. I am not driving it too much as I am a road warrior and will be travelling very often. So miles on my odometer are very less. Questions - 1) Nissan suggests servicing every 6 months e.g. 1st at 3750 miles or 6 months, 2nd at 7500 or 12 months. At 6 months I had only 2000 miles at 12 months ... Read More
I looked at a Altima SE-R with the 260 HP V6 3.5 liter engine. But the Nissan 3.5L is so so thirsty. I went with an Accord V6 6-speed and easily get 30-32 on the highway. No way you can actually get that mileage in a Maxima and the v6 Accord also has plenty of passing power. Double sixes, MidCow
thanks, I did just that but in the end it was a clogged up EGR tube. As soon as they cleaned it up the problem is gone. Manifold needed to be removed to get to it though so I didn't attempt it myself. Costed me a couple hundred but on the way I got some gaskets replaced and throttle body cleaned as well. Thanks for replying.
maxsman, The difference in horsepower is 33 between the two engine (222 hp vs 255 hp for the 2002). Nissan is relying on this 3.5 to power the vast majority of its cars and trucks. I have a 1995 GLE and the cold start problem was solved by replacing the coolant temperature sensor. Make sure you get the right thread size for your car. It's a relatively cheap solution at about $20 and well worth the try.
Most likely you have a tire with a loose belt. No amount of balancing will correct the problem. Suggest you take it to a tire place that has a road force tire balancer (such as Hunter 9700) , that can measure the road force variation on your wheels/tires. Excessive road force will indicate a bad tire which should be replaced. I am almost certain that this is your problem. Nissan got ... Read More
Thanks, I saw this FSB before. I wish it was it but my car stalls even in park while it's warming up. When i had an old computer they reprogrammed it but it didn't help. They say that the new computer already has the update in it and so this is not the cause of the issue. Thanks though, I do agree though that most of the times they have no ... Read More
I found a Technical Service Bulletin issued that addresses this issue. I have e-mailed one person that had the fix done, he says the car runs great in cold weather now. He found it after the dealer did a bunch of work on his car trying to fix the problem. He said the real fix is reprogramming one of the computer controllers. I don't have access to the full bulletin online ... Read More
According to the manual the car is designed for 91 octaine so even if you use 87 it should give you pinging or bad performance but not stalling. It's not the gas. I am looking into this problem on my car. I am pretty sure it's sensor related but I havn't figured out which one yet. Latest guess - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Will let you know when I replace it ... Read More
I have the same problem and I run 93 octane in it. It bothers me that it happens, but it doesn't trip any codes and I can't find any info on the net about it.
