After 2 years of ownership, this car's design still looks fresh and not aged. Especially lively this car is with 5 speed transmission, which I was lucky to locate. Just downshift and its famously smooth and juicy VQ30DE V6 engine (rated best V6 for past 10 years) still performs on par with modern V6s. With 136K miles presently, maintenance covers way more parts, like tensioners, sensors, power coils. Yet I never had big issues except broken throw-out bearing that left me stranded 60 miles away from home and a failed injector. However, for its miles this car still holds very solid and I am sure I will easily pass 200K mark still on original transmission and with some minor repairs!
5 Speed Transmission, roominess of interior and agility of the engine.
My friend had one and let me drive it. Fell in love right away. Great handling, smooth, fast, and good looking inside and out. Bought mine with 128,000miles now has 135,000 only preventive maintenance has been done.
Tourquey 190hp motor. Bose stereo when it works. Black leather. digital climate control.
Square cup holders? come on now. back lit items seem to burn out early on. I- beam suspension in the back is a little rough at times.
Original brakes lasted 125,000 miles. Replacement brakes lasted 110,000. Original exhaust system. Clutch replaced at factory expense at 35,000 miles. Replaced original starter and alternator. Average 26 - 27 mpg, high speed driving. Replaced struts at 270,000 miles. I expect to log wll over 300,000 miles. This car is fantastic!!! Terrific performance and economy. Best car on the road for the money.
I have the SE with 5 speed manual, alloy wheels, spoiler, sunroof. bought it at 73k for $4800 and have put on 7k in 5 months. first off, for a '95, this car looks good. it can easily pass for a 99 and the interior design looks a lot newer than 10 years old. the 3.0 V6 is silky smooth and POWERFUL. this car has GREAT acceleration, especially with the 5 speed. if you know what youre doing you can drag race most cars you pull up next to at stoplights. very comfortable. the a/c works very well. handling is decent. gas mileage is not bad for a smaller V6. only problems were with transmission due to previous owners abuse. and even that couldnt really damage it.
3.0 L V6, 5 speed manual, sunroof
nissan has far surpassed any improvements i could ask for. All newer maxima models are excellent. i am most definitely a fan.
This car is the first I've owned and is great. It performs and handles well. It is a fairly unique car in the marketplace--it doesn't exhibit the luxury of a Lexus ES or Acura Legend of the same era, but is cheaper and offers equal, if not superior, performance. It's an ideal enthusiast car on a budget. I've had to replace the left control arm bushing and both of my rear power windows are inoperable (one is the arm assembly, one is the motor). Other than these minor problems (in addition to brakes and clutch replacement) the car has been very reliable, requiring only routine maintainance. The performance of the VQ engine is very smooth and rewarding, but carries a penalty in gas milage.
The engine and chassis are great for curvy two-lane roads like the one I commute on. The Bose system is great. Plenty of interior room and trunk space.
Cupholder is terrible. The linkage is not nearly as nice as Honda/Acura/BMW. The fuel economy is not particularly good either. The trunk does not seem to have enough insulation, as the floor gets quite hot from the exhaust after the car hs been driven hard. Don't carry ammunition back there.
