Funny car....
Vehicle
1992 Nissan Maxima 4 Dr GXE Sedan
Review
I bought this car with 221k miles on it... today it has 235k and it's still going very strong. I changed out the radiator, battery and windshield wiper motor... I got the car for $450 bucks off my buddy who had the car since it was new and he said the auto tranny has NEVER been worked on. This car refuses to die... starts up in dead winter.. it makes my friends laugh at how durable this thing is... they call it "the beast." The auto tranny started slipping recently but I added some tranny treatment and its working like new... crazy car, they dont build them like this anymore.

I needed a reliable car and I got one. Once the car hits 2000 rpm this car can take off. I'm the second owner and the only thing I've replaced was the batt., radiator and starter. But bigger, more expensive problems are starting to occur like the exaust system, motor mounts, and tranny. Beyond my budget to fix, so I'm just going to run this car down to the ground and get ready to to buy another maxima. Newer of course.
Favorite Features
Engine-It's very reliable. For a 14 year old car.it's still got it!The body,I'm not a fan of square cars but I've seen these cars with body kits on them and what a difference it makes.
Suggested Improvements
It's a plain boring car to cruise in.The tan interior doesn't do it for me and the seating is too low.But of course nissan has improved all this already.I love maxima's but I will never get a GXE again because of the comfort reason.

This car has been in my family for 11 years & it's been great! My mom has put a/b 100 miles a day for the past 3 years. Not too much work, had to replace brakes & engine. Cute little car. Looking at the 2004 model for my mom's new car. i'm 16 & its gonna be my first car- GREAT first car! We've put 272,000 miles on it & its going strong. Hopefully it will last a few more years or at least to 300000 miles!
Favorite Features
Nice size, sunroof, reliable, good backseat room, keyless entry, lumbar support.
Suggested Improvements
Nothing unique about car, needs cup holders! Everything else is improved on in the 2004 version.
Is it expensive to keep as a used car?

Bought it in August 2000. Changed timing belt and water pump and tires right away. Door window stopped working. Changed wires and exhoustion system. Changed 4 injectors. Changed alternator and battery(2times). Changed wiper motor. Cassete stopped working. Going to change CV joint boots, ball joints, strats, actually almost all suspension system. Do not know what is next. Cost of repair in 4 years is about $5250. Right now 160,000miles. 131,000 miles when bought. It rusts a lot. If I have money, I will buy a new car, toyota maybe.
Favorite Features
The engine is good and powerful.

Hope it would be more reliable

Good car but...

I've owned this car for 9 years and finally selling. It's been overall a good used car. The engine is very strong and reliable. The only complaint I have concerns the brakes. This car goes through brakes every 30k miles and you need to settle for Nissan factory brakes that cost $700.00. After market brakes from other companies don't last as long. Recently had some sporadic electrical problems, which is impossible to detect - I simply replace the fuse. Otherwise it has been a good car (145k miles).
Favorite Features
Engine, Comfortable ride, solid, well built
Suggested Improvements
Brakes wear to quickly. Electical problems after 140k miles.
Great for '92, but d/n age gracefully

Owned since new. Solid driver w/ good HP readily available; minimal to mild torque steer. Compliant ride w/ reasonable handling for a FWD. Fuel economy acceptable. Sometimes balky autotranny when cold. Clean, well- designed interior. Weakest area has been cabin electronics (Bose stereo, clock, window lifts, rear-window defroster), and engine electronics (notably the coils and ECM). Defective VTC sprockets. No fold-down rear seat, intrusive trunk hinges. Prehistoric cup holders. Surprisingly rattle-free after all these years.
Favorite Features
Build quality, good outward vision. Solid styling, if a bit dated for 2004, but still the best looking Maxima iteration out there (my opinion).
Suggested Improvements
Replace the tepid Bose/Clarion audio system, which tend to fail with age anyways. Original 92 VTC sprockets were a flawed design; mine failed under warranty but for others Nissan should've picked up the tab.

250k ++ miles!!!
Vehicle

Review
I had the manual trans SE V6, and yes I put over 250k miles on this machine, until it crapped out on me! Good styling for a '92. I loved impressing my friends with how fast this thing could accelerate. Also i got a top speed of 135! (On an enclosed racetrack of course...) I've seen quite a few of these cars suped up, and I can only imagine how fast they were.
Favorite Features
Wow where do I start: RELIABILITY, V6, tall shifter, RWD, SPEED, moonroof, styling, stock rims, spoiler, seats w/ lumbar, comfort, roomy, power windows and locks, trunk space, backseat armrest, change holder thingy.
Suggested Improvements
A couple: cup holders don't do much, center console is pathetically small.

I bought my 1992 SE from a Private party in Houston, Texas. It is White on Gray with 5 Spd Manual. I have put approximately 30K Mi. on this car and it runs just like a Jewel. When I drove it from Houston to Los Angeles it can keep up with the flow of traffic @ 85 MPH with no hesitation. I would recommed this car to anybody in the market for a reliable used car.
Favorite Features
Acceleration, Fuel Economy, easy to Maintain, Reliability and resale value.
Suggested Improvements
Upgrade wheels and tires, and Audio System.
