I think we've had this discussion before, but I think you have correctly summarized that 15 years ago, the Mazima was a much more legitimate competitor to the 3 series than it is today. I am a long time BMW owner/enthusiast, but I recall many of my employees (MBA's, Engineers) opting for the Maxima as a sporty Japanese alternative to the 328i back in the mid 1990's. The wouldn't have considered ... Read More

The Maxima's loss of sales was symptomatic of its overall transition into a very boring car. Sure - those that would only buy a car with a manual tranmission were part of the many that jumped ship. But no matter how you look at it - that segment of the Maxima's customer base had little impact on Nissan's overall decline in sales. You can't possibly blame the loss of a feature ... Read More

I had a 1990 Max for 14 years and a 2000 Max for 9 years. Loved them both, but never had a sport edition model. I think Nissan quality has gone downhill since hooking up with Renault. My 2009 Max, in addition to my issues with the ride quality, has a dark area on top of left fender that needs to be re-painted. This is on a $35,000 car! But Nissan ... Read More

I have a 1990 nissan maxima, car runs great, only two issues, the heater/AC display will be very dim at times, good wack on the side of the dash usually fixes that, and the digital dash only comes on after the car has warmed up, but then will come on the rest of the day. I bought my 1996 Maxima brand new in October of that year. My previous car, a 1990 Maxima, was totaled and we needed a new car. I was very impressed with the '90 so my wife and I opted to look at the new cars and bought this one. For the next 10 years we were very satisfied with and had no maintenance issues other than oil changes and filter changes ... Read More

one magazine recently talking about new Hyundai SUV said the following "The build quality seems to fit the low price". Even though I am a little disappointed with 07 Maxima redesign, there is no reason even to measure it up to Azera. If you drive SE version, you will love and you will enjoy every moment doing it. Unlike Azera, whose ride is similar to Buicks of the late 1990's, 3.8 ... Read More

I recently purchased a 1990 Nissan Maxima SE for $500 and after putting a healthy $1000 into it, it is running...roughly but actually not that bad. However, when the guy sold it to me, he explained that he had an issue with a fuse blowing and the car not starting. Last night was the first night driving the car, and it died on me and wouldn't start. Luckly my friends helped ... Read More

Congratulations on your 171k bullet proof miles on your 97 SE. I think you hit the nail on the head with the term "ponderous" to describe where Nissan has taken the Maxima. Almost all cars have gotten bigger over the last 10-15 years. A Civic today is substantially larger than an Accord of the late 80's and early 90's. The latest 3 series by BMW offers nearly the same interior size ... Read More

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima that I bought new in May 2001. In July 2003, I had a problem with my gas door where it got out of alignment (skewed up on the top right and skewed out on the bottom left). This interfered with the opening and closing of the door. I brought it to the dealership (Barry Nissan, Newport, RI) and they said they could fix it. They ... Read More
