Bought this truck used in 2001, it had 36,000 on it. Paid $10,500. It's been a great truck very reliable I currently have 165,000 miles on it and runs great. Fuel economy not so good 17-18 mpg. Tires last a long time with no alignment needed, just rotate and balance. I've used Amsoil Synthetics in it for years and change the oil every 15,000 miles. I use it as a service truck in my business and it's been a good work horse.
Reliable and durable.
Cooling system should be larger, have had issues with it. Uncomfortable ride but it's a truck. Rear spark plug very difficult to replace. Tail gate issues. Could use more hp for hauling.
Switched from a 21 year old Nissan Hardbody D21 to a 2000 Frontier Desert Runner. Bought with 60,000 miles. I like the tough look of the Desert Runner, it looks tough. No major maintenance other than replaced brake pads and rotors. Exhaust heat shields rattle at 1500 RPM and rear slider and other windows rattle. Other than those minor things, I love the truck. Nice acceleration and power, comfortable, and great visibility. The only major design problem is the horrible 5th gear. 3000 RPM at 70 MPH... could be much lower, especially with the V6 to get better gas mileage.
Bought from private seller in Venice Beach Ca. Only had 58,000 miles on it, was in great shape. Had to replace right exhaust manifold ($400). And 1st gear synchro fragmented ($1700). And cat manifolds rattle. Going to remove those. Put BFG All-Terrain T/A KO tires, and american racing outlaw II rims. Other than a few minor problems it has been my fav truck so far.
Towing and load capacity, Decent power. Love the body style. The 01 looks like a tonka truck. Great off road.
Better fuel economy and diesel option. Better location for knock sensor. Needs better quality trans and clutch.
Great truck with lots of power in the automatic v-6. No problems whatsoever, just changing oil and everything else continues to work fine. I never have to worry about the truck not working right. A very easy to own vehicle, and comfortable to drive.
simple designs, easy to maintain
could get better gas mileage, although I really hit the gas hard.
