I went to the attached link that helped me fix my 1998 Nissan Frontier gauge cluster: http://www.4x4parts.com/ubbthreads/showflat.phpCat=0&Number=602102&Main=602001 You can find it by doing a Google search on 'NTE152 Nissan' The link described the replacement of two transistors. When I inspected the transistors on my circuit card, the transistors measured OK, so I didn't replace them. What I discovered is that the solder joints were cracked, so I resoldered them and reassembled ... Read More
My 1998 Frontier had the same problem. Faulty components in the instrument cluster. Nissan knows this is a problem. No clusters available, domestic repair of clusters start @ $300.00. I sent mine to MR. Wizard in Canada, cost about $160.00 to refurbish and repair all components in the cluster. They guarantee it to be better than original equip. Google Mr. Whizard Technical Services and you will get a link. They provide ... Read More
Sometimes vehicles are purposely wired this way so that the driver gets an immediate warning that one or both brake lamps are burned out. It's probably not the root of your trouble, but it's worth a check.
I have a similar problem. The background light to the speedometer, tach, and gearshift selector suddenly went out. I can't see how fast I'm driving at night. I've taken the dash apart 6 times, found no loose connections, checked every fuse. Any ideas where to look? The dealer told me they'd have to tear it apart and look for broken connections, which is what I did.
I too have a 1998 Nissan Frontier. all of my guages quit working all of a sudden. Did you figure out how to get them working?
The speed odometer stopped working on our 1998 Nissan Frontier Pickup. Any suggestions on what the problem might be and how we might be able to fix it? Thank you. dee
Hello, I have a 1998 Nissan Frontier and lately the instrumentaion works intermittenly, and when the ignition is turned off the, the temp gauge goes hot/cold and the speedometer reads 99999999 and stays lit up. This is also causing a power draw. Could this be a computer problem or a short. You help is appreciated.
Btw, don't forget that the Frontier has a TIMING CHAIN!! I can't tell you how happy that makes me. My 1998 Nissan Maxima has a timing chain, and it now has 227,000 miles, without ever having to worry about replacing a timing belt. All I have done is oil changes and basic maintenance. Does the Tacoma have that? I think not. Also, if you read the Feb. 2007 issue of Car ... Read More
OK, I just did'nt wanta be too blunt. What I meant was, I'd rather pay more for a superior truck than pay less for an inferior truck that uses extra gadgets as an incentive to buy. Ken, I've owned a 1998 Frontier and it was no match for the Toyota in the power department and I would have to say that the Frontier was overall not as good as a Toyota. ... Read More
I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma Dbl Cab 4x2 Long bed, TRD Sport with a 4.0 liter V6 and Auto trans. I've read a few comparisons posted by Frontier owners, and although I can't dispute how well the Fronties are built, I went with the Tacoma for various reasons. First of all I used to own a 1998 Frontier King Cab with auto trans and 4 cyl. 98 was the first ... Read More
Had the ses light come on with code 0400, egr system problem. Had all parts of the egr system replaced with new except the egr valve. The light has come on again at 122 miles, question is this? Does our local mechanic or Nissan dealer required to install a repair code to remove the history code? This is the second time for the SES light to come on and now my ... Read More
Guys, listen, and listen closely! Think about who the Tacoma caters too! The Toyota is built for off-road and rugged use in a truck that will undoubtedly last forever; longer than any Chevy or Ford! However, you guys are rating these two trucks (Tacoma and Frontier) based off of "who cares" factors!! Ride comfortability, cabin noise on the highway, roomy interior, and PRICE! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, REMEMBER THAT!!! ... Read More
I own a 2001 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4 manual shift.Four-wheel drive used maybe 15 days in winter. Rest of year I engage four-wheel drive 5 times in rain to keep hubs lubicated. This year I engaged it in first snow. Above 30 MPH roaring, grinding noise in free-running hubs and/or front differential. Had hubs greased for $160 at dealer. Still roars and grinds. My prior 1998 Nissan 4x4 four-wheel drive cut ... Read More
