2013 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl CVT)
Replaced a 2012 Maxima, which had seats that caused physical pain like I've never experienced. Thankfully the new seats in the Altima are terrific. The car seems solid and well thought out, overall. Excellent ride quality, acceleration, and handling - although it feels a bit soft compared to the Maxima. Fit and finish are excellent for the price point. Engine is very powerful, and the CVT is flat out amazing. Fuel economy is exceptional. Bose stereo is good. Backup camera is a great feature. Best air conditioning I've ever experienced - you could store meat in the car on 100 degree days. The leather is soft (surprising at this price point!) and the zebra wood grain trim is nice.
The seats are worth the hype. The CVT is smooth and doesn't feel sluggish. There's lots of power. It's a good looking car with clear attention to detail. But my favorite feature? The fuel efficiency. Wait, what? With the 3.5? This car has returned as high as 40 mpg during highway driving. That's based on fillups. Last tank was 35 mpg in mixed driving, mostly highway. Heavy stop and go, short trips, takes it down to 20. With an easy foot, 24 can be had. This to me is outstanding in a car with this level of power and performance. Set the cruise and watch the RPM's hold anywhere from 1400 to 1750 - 500 less than the Maxima this replaced.
Sport suspension? Perhaps an SE-R package with that, 290 hp like the Maxima, and the brakes from the Maxima. That would be nice. I know a manual is out. More attention to interior detail - the center stack buttons and plastic bezels are out of place with the rest of the interior - why no woodgrain? And how about some better exterior and interior color choices? I would just love this car in the long gone metallic orange paint with a two tone brown interior, or even orange leather like the previous gen Maxima had. Also, tan carpeted floor mats are just a bad idea in general. Hard to suggest much this early with a car that seems this good out of the box.
