Overall

The Altima provides driving enthusiasts with a practical package that won't disappoint their sensibilities. The new-for-2007 interior is a welcome improvement, but options can quickly dial up the entry price.

Dynamics

Dynamics are the Altima's strong point. It steers sharply, turns out strong performance numbers and exhibits good composure. The 6-cylinder powertrain is among the best available.

Comfort

It's got a firmer ride than some in its class, but never harsh. Rear seat headroom is tight for tall people.

Function

Large, clear gauges and a sizable trunk. The HVAC cryptograms could be better. Overall a reasonably well thought out cabin.

Design/Build Quality

A few minor fit and finish issues don't unduly detract from the quality surroundings of the sanitary (if a bit austere) interior.

Family Friendly The Altima is most prominently a family-friendly sedan, but its sharp lines look equally at home during a night on the town.

Comfortable Easy to live with and easy to use, the Altima is a supremely usable sedan.

High Performer Probably the most performance focused of the Japanese midsize sedans. The Altima isn't a sports car but it certainly has sporting intentions.
