    My suggestion. Don't buy Nissan. Saving on up front cost will cost you quite a bit in later years.     Their only competition was the Honda Accord? Evidently you never looked at the KIA Optimas,Hyundai Sonatas,the Ford Fusions or the Nissan Altimas. All of those that I mentioned have been excellent value cars,especially after 2006.They also look better than the Camry,inside and outside.

    Hei, If you have altima 2006 you are under warranty 60k/5 years. They have bad piston rings and recall thousand of 2006 models. You have to claim this problem and ask your dealer to fight with you against NNA. You have the right to get new engine.

    Complained since 2006 about engine noise while under warranty and under 80K. ...unless you bought the extended warranty, I think the warranty only covers the first 60k miles for the engine.

    Get new engine from 2004-2006 model and change the precat with after market header. Call Nissan 1-800# to check all recall (ECM-reprogramming, Pre-cat,etc) . If it is under 80k/8 years, you can get new engine + pre-cat from Nissan for free under Federal Emission Law.

    The fusion drives like crap. My mother has a 2006 SEL V6, although the car is peppy, the steering is lose, and is pittiful for FWD in snow. Took it back to be "fixed" over 3 times...still was leaking....they ended up just letting me pick another Altima. Be very alert and wary when they say it's fixed. Leaks are sometimes impossible to find. Good luck!

    I'd say the pistons are re-usable as well. So long as the cylinder walls are just honed, and not bored. The crank could be machined as well, just depends on the cost difference to Nissan I suppose.
