My climate control knob is broken on my 2005 Nissan Altima. The fan is blowing on high. How do I take the knob off without breaking it?
Different models were made at different times with varying quality control at that time so some were better built than others. It really depends so read the forum or other online forums to get a sense of "reliability" of the Nissan Altima. I have a 2005 pre-owned Altima S w/auto which came with 20,001 miles on it. It had rust all over the engine compartment and the cabin seat bolts. Finally ... Read More
I own a "certified pre-owned" 2005 Altima S w/auto which came with 20,001 miles and lots of rust in the engine compartment and inside the seating bolts. Currently, every time I get it "fixed" for routine maintenance, something else comes up. I had the steering column components replaced since the steering wheel was shaking but now there's vibration through the floor & gas/brake pedals at hwy speeds when it wasn't there ... Read More
A nice rep with Nissan Regional Consumer Affairs says that unfortunately my warranty doesn't cover rust after 5 years. I must presume to have been negligent in the maintenance of my car or Nissan would at least consider helping with the cost to repair? The only problem I have with that assumption is that everything on my car is still like new except premature rusting through the floorboards on both the ... Read More
I did not enquire as to the year of the remanufactured engine .. it was warranteed for 12 months or 12K miles .. I saw bulletin board messages even for 2005 & 2006 Altimas. that is simply and absolutely outrageous that you had to have brake and rotor work done on a 2009 altima; how many miles do you have on her? anyway, that kind of BS is getting typical with dealerships and is really poor customer service when you think about it; everything that goes wrong with the car is "oh, there really isn't anything wrong or oh, I wouldn't be concerned" - you ... Hi - i leased a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5SL and the lease is ending in March. Apparently the 2 yr servicing date is sometime early March and i might extend this lease for next 6 months. THe problem is that the 2 yr servicing is approx $400-500 if i were to get it at the Nissan Dealer. The ques - do i need to get it done from the dealer and ... Read More
I actually much prefer the 1990-1993 Accord to the 1994-199(6 or 7?) in every way. I have spent a lot of time with both and in terms of driving dynamics, visibility, comfort, etc I prefer the earlier version. The 94-97 felt like a blob. I looked at the 98-'02 version before a purchase in 1998/9 and I ended up with something that better met my needs/wants. In 2005 we went to ... Read More
I too find the seat in my 2007 Altima S to be extremely uncomfortable. I drive 100+ miles each day and after 20 minutes, my lower back/rear is numb. After 2 months of adjusting the seat, I've had no luck. I traded in a 2005 Altima S after 40K miles that was much more comfortable. It seems they got rid of the lumbar adjustment in the 2007. I plan to write ... Read More
I know about the problem with the 2006 2.5L engine but I haven't seen anything on 2005. I own a 2005 Altima 2.5SL with only 7500 mile on it. I bought it in Oct, 2005 and have driven it very little because I have an old Camry I drive to work. I noticed during the first 2000 miles it was a quart low. I changed the oil with Mobile 1 and ... Hey guys, Ok, so my 2005 Altima is having issues when starting. When I turn the key on the engine would sound like it's out of gas and won't start, but after 5 secs of holding on to the key the engine will finally start, sometimes shaking a little. I've checked the spark plugs, air filters, and taken my Altima to two Nissan dealers. One told me that the engine's dirty ... Read More
I would not call it the best by any means, but not as subpar as some think. Fit/finish are on par with Honda/Toyota. Look with an open mind.. (Not trying to be aggravating when I say this) If Ford, Toyota, or Honda does not have the best interior here, which car would you say does? Of all the cars I've looked at and messed with the switchgear, here was how I ... Read More
IMO, it seems as though nissan kept the overall dash style of the current altima but with the quality of the 2005-2006 altimas. Overall, its a good interior. I hope the center dash vent isn't nissans "excuse" for not having vents in the rear! The push button start looks HUGE compared to the smaller ones of the bmw ones... -Cj :)
Oil consuption is due to a bad rod in Nissan's engine. Typically its the #2 rod. They know about the problem and are doing thier best to keep it under wraps. I got hold of a bad one and the mechanic was a good guy and told me about the problem. I'm now on my second engine in a 2005 Altima and I'm hearing the tell-tale ratteling again. Time for engine ... Actually the Maxima has NOT been faster than the Altima, even in 05-06 models. Further, would it not be 04-06 models since the Maxima was redesigned for 04? The only difference between the 04-06 Maxima is that the SE models have had a 5spd automatic and 6spd manual since 2004, while the SL didn't gain that 5spd automatic until toward the end of the 2004 model year and the beginning of ... My check engine light in 2005 turned on due to a bad sensor in the muffler that had to do with emissions requirements. I had it replaced and it was covered under warranty. Now I'm reading about a new sensor that is bad on altima years 2003 and higher, that causes the engine to go out during routine traffic. This sounds similar what has happened to my car over this weekend. ... Read More
Yes, the Pilot is an exceptionally good quality vehicle. Very solidly built, very quiet and refined and we've had zero problems or issues with it. Love the Altima too. What a surprise - the Pilot has turned out to be better than the Toyota Sienna it replaced, and the Altima is way better than the woeful 2005 Avalon it replaced. Toyota sure is going downhill fast. We're now Honda and Nissan ... Read More
Quick update: I have now had the Altima for 4 months. No problems, no rattles, tight as a drum, excellent transmission and throttle response. It is still a blast to drive. So far Nissan quality control far and away beats the 2005 Avalon it replaced. Way to go Nissan, Toyota you are now getting the bad press you deserve.
O RLY? The Altima is not using the (new) VQ35HR, it will use the VQ35DE with new internals. Press Release from just two days ago: NISSAN DEVELOPS NEW-GENERATION V6 ENGINES --Engines to power all-new Skyline to be released this autumn-- TOKYO (Aug. 22, 2006)--Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has newly developed two new-generation six-cylinder V-type engines for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicles featuring powerful performance and improved environmental friendliness. For example, they have used a CVT in the Murano for a few years. The Versa/Tiida also has a CVT. There may be other Nissans around the world with CVTs, those are the two I know off the top of my head. Here's an article I found that does a good job explaining the CVT used in the Murano. Notice that it's from April 2003: http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/030402.htm And here is some background ... Read More
I don't have an Altima, but I like to download OMs when they're available from automaker sites to compare. The Altima's OM is particularly informative and comprehensive concerning routine service matters. I definitely recommend you download a copy of the 2005 OM from Nissan's site while you can. The only currently available issues are for 2005 and 2006 model years. Once the 2007 models come out, or shortly thereafter, I suspect ... Read More

Flightnurse, Since you sell Nissan's for a living I have a question for you. I hope you can help me out. First, sorry to hear your 2005 Altima was totaled. I too have a 2005 Altima. It's the 3.5 SE. I really love the car. However, from time to time I feel a vibration which I think is in the tranny. I thought it might have been the road given the ... Read More
