Hi, Just want to know if I'm getting a good deal. I got Nissan VPP, MSRP:25,030 with the sunroof , invoice 23,530, I got 2003 Nissan Maxima with 130k miles i got $3500 trade, so no money down just a trade and rebate. Yes catalytic converter by law are covered for 80k miles. I have a 2003 Altima 2.5 S which I bought with 57k miles on it, carw as driving fine but I knew something was wrong The Nissan dealership around the corner diagnosed the car and explained my cat was bad and the engine needed to be replaced becuase it was sucking down oil like crazy When an Altimas's pre cat breaks ... Rough engine running is a symptom of a much larger issue... Why exactly did he say you need a new engine? You need a new head gasket - but why? What broke in your engine to cause the gasket to become fouled? These cars DON'T burn oil and have gaskets go bad out of the blue - and I would bet money that if you only replace the gasket - your engine will experience a catastrophic ... Read More...

QR25DE is not bad engine. Without pre-cat it will last hundred thousands of miles as other Nissan engines. even with the pre-cat it will probably last hundreds of thousands of miles. if you compare the number of QR25DE engines sold to the number having problems and your odds are pretty good. on top of that, its mostly limited to the 2002 model (first use of QR25DE) ... New to the forum. I recently purchased a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5 S fore $8000 down here in Orlando. Car has been running really great but it had problems and after reading this forum I have a lot of the same problems you guys do. I, too, am having the same problem with my 2003 Altima 3.5. I have taken it to the dealership and they said it is normal. However, it only started after having coolant flushed and they have purged the system twice to remove any air in there. I also had them check into whether the tube is clogged or not. I just bought a 2009 Altima Sedan that has the CVT. I did a lot of research before getting it b/c of the known CVT issues. Whatever you do, don't bother asking a dealer about it.
