Nissan Altima 2002 Oil Consumption SOLUTION

I met a mechanic today who fixed 2 Nissan Altima for the same problem: loss of power and high oil consumption. All he did was hollow out the main cat converter. He showed me the honeycomb chunks that were filthy on one side and clean on the back side. He explained that the exhaust was being backed up with pressure causing the oil to spew out of the engine. That explained ... Read More...

Re: Predictions [deltheking]

When altima came out in 2002,,the redesign was stylish exteriorly with decent reliability and it was a success. The new 08 redesign could not do that. Really? So the fact that Nissan tried to keep the Altima the same size (and even make it a little smaller) is a bad thing? Have you even driven one? They're a blast as far as driving dynamics goes. After sitting in an ... Read More...

Service Engine Soon Nightmare

I own a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5l with 73,000 miles. The SES light turned on 2 days after I had the oil changed and air filter replaced. I was able to find out the error code myself and it was reading ATF temperature sensor error. I then took the car to the dealership and was charged $100 to be told that it was indeed an ATF temperature sensor error and then an additional ... Read More...

Never Again!

I bought a 2002 Altima. 2.5, 4-cylinder in April 2002. I had problems from the onset. It wouldn't start on a few occasions. The dealer had to tow it a couple of times, but they never found anything wrong. It suffered catastrophic engine failure after about 90K miles. It started with high oil consumption, then knocking noise. No help from nissan consumer affairs ... Read More...

I purchased my 2007 Altima in July 2007. Recently, I heard an unusual noise and took the car to the dealership. They told me that I needed a new transmission. The transmission bearrings had worn out. How can this be on a recently new vehicle. I have 130 miles round trip commute to work. Therefore, I have put a lot of miles on my car. I have 66,000 miles when I drove it to ... Read More...

Nissan Altima CVT

Re: Altima shopping - CVT tranny issues - pls help [wantanaltima]

ok, I'll try to exlain this as best I can. fist off, the CVT doesn't use a "belt". It's actually a chain. Much like a timing chain, so long as it lubercated with clean transmission fluid, It's not going to break. In other words, service the transmission at the proper intervals and you wont have to worry about it. As for the reliability, Nissan says that their CVT has ... Read More...

Re: Class Action Lawsuit [meyrick007]

Yesterday, I went to get an inspection for my 2002 altima 2.5. I have had this service engine light on for a couple of days but it normally comes on and goes away. The inspector informed me that the service engine code was P0420 - Catalyst Efficienty. I asked him what that meant and he informed me that something was wrong with your catalytic converter. I immediately ... Read More...
