It's too bad the next generation Altima will be an evolution of the current design, and not something entirely new. The current design was basically derived from the last generation Passat (2001.5-2005). I'd like to see something a little more original like the other Nissan cousins, the new Infiniti designs.
They make just about everything optional on their cars and it seriously drives up the pricing. On top of that, the new interior, while MUCH better than before, still isn't as good as the Accord or Camry. Back in April of 2001, Ghosn promised that the Altima's interior would be on VW Passat levels. It hasn't reached them yet. In my area, there are some Nissan Altima 2.5S models that run ... Read More

I bought my 2.5 SL in November 2001. In November 2002, my "service engine soon" light came on. I took it to a dealer, and the computer "could not find" anything. It happened on a road trip three weeks ago. Same thing, the dealer cleared the computer because the codes showed no problems. A couple of days ago, it came on again. I took it in today, and FINALLY, they tell ... Read More

Hi, Just getting my money back from my Lemon (2001 Monte Carlo) and I am thinking about Nissan. I found a GREAT deal on a 2002 maxima loaded with 20k miles. Trying to decide between that and a new Altima. The Maxima is a smooth ride, but the 2.5 Altima feels very similar to my monte carlo. I am going to test drive a camry this week. I am holding back ... this is slander: "DO NOT BUY A NISSAN ALTIMA GXE 2001 AND IF YOU DEFINITELY WANT TO BUY ONE, THEN FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND OPINION, PLEASE ADVOID BUYING IT FROM COLLINS NISSAN." You do as you wish. Have a nice day.
To tell you the truth, I've had this car since september 2001 and I never get tired of it. The design I'm sure will age well. Every morning I find myself just staring at it. I have a 2.5s basically fully loaded. If your looking for a roomy car this is the one. Altima is actually considered a full size car byCars.com. There is alot of trunk space too. The Bose ... Greetings, I am considering purchasing a 01' Altima GXE LE. I drove it last night and it pulls to the right a lot. The owner just had 4 new tires installed and the alignment was checked. He told me that Nissan's are known for their "pulling to the right". I do understand that some cars have torque steer that will pull them to the right, but it was doing it when ... Read More
I just recently purchased a 2001 altima GXE with only 28.5k miles. Beatiful car, however, I seem to be having problems. When I am on about 39 or 40 mph, it seems to surge. Like it is choking. Just slightly. Not hard, but enough to become annoying. The nissan service manager says that this is normal becuase it is going into over drive and all altima gxe does this around the ... Read More
Been there, done that. I am the owner of a 1996 Altima that currently has 181,000 miles on the odometer. The high mileage is mostly highway. The stalling problem is fairly common on this car and it is the distributor. This is really expensive. Expect to pay $500 to $900 for labor and the cost of the part. Nissan distributors are made by Hitachi and they have a high rate of ... Read More
After shopping a while, I went with a 2002 Grand Prix GTP. MSRP was $28,240, got it for $22k in change. There is a $3k mfg rebate on this car that just ended and 0% financing. Yes, the Altima and Max are newer and more refined with better interiors, but for $22k and the better peformance I couldn't pass this deal up. Plus I got a 2 door coupe, something Altima ... Some guys at work had the previous generation Galants and all said the car was awful. They couldn't wait till the leases ended to dump those puppies. On the other hand, down here in south florida, I see a lot of that generation of Altima's on the streets. We also have a 2001 Altima and it's been quite good, considering I'm a diehard Toyotaist. Just one mans opinion! The Sandman :-) ... Read More
I'm working on my 3rd Nissan. The thing that I like about the engine is the timing chain (versus a belt on other engines that might need replacing at 60k - 100k miles). My 1991 Stanza was running great with 184k miles on the original timing chain, until it was totaled by a rear collision last week. I expect the same use out of my 2001 Altima (21k miles).
...because of the recent crash test scores! I don't care if Honda and Toyota don't offer ABS standard on their cars, Nissan should set an example for the big Japanese manuafacturers and make ABS standard. When Nissan begans adding little nifty safety and convenience features standard while keeping a good price, they will beat Toyota and Honda at their own game. Now if Toyota and Honda were to make ABS standard ... Read More
I do all my own maintenance to include major work and I vote Toyota as the easiest, Nissan second and Honda Last. Honda makes it hard to do many of what I would consider easy maintenance tasks like changing a timing belt without getting very specialized tools that would normally not be needed. Also, Honda and Nissan parts have always cost me more than Toyota parts. They all build good cars, ... Read More
OK first let me tell you what i have... It is a 3.5 auto with everything EXCEPT the stupid wood (that i think screams"i am old") and leather seats.... Yes i know some will say i was stupid to pay 27K(sticker) for a car that has cheap plastic interior, but i like the interior. Plus i got a real good price on my trade in... It was made in November 2001. ... Read More
The 2003 Nissan Max will be built on the same plateform as the Infinity Q45. That is completely wrong. The new Maxima will be based on the Altima platform and built in Smyrna. No word on whether it will be RWD, but my opinion is that it will be FWD with an AWD option. If it were going to be RWD, it would probably be built on the FM platform (G35, ... Read More
I had a problem about 2 months ago with my 01 Altima GXE LE and I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem with their Altimas... I got my car washed and about 5 minutes after driving away from the carwash, I noticed water dripping into my car from underneath the glove compartment. I panicked of course and pulled over to find where the water was coming from ... Read More
Nissan finally has a winner in the new Altima. In fact, it looks like the Altima will primarily cannabalize the tired Maxima. I was shocked to find the 2002 "old" Accord prevailed in the December 2001 Car and Driver showdown with the new Altima and Camry: http://www.forbes.com/2001/11/30/1203flint.html
