My father's 1995 J30 qualifies as a clunker and therefore he will be looking for any car getting over 28 mpg to receive the $4500 credit from the government. He tried the new Prius; however, it is almost impossible to get a Prius V with the equipment he wants, and if he were to order it, it could take up to a year to come in. With that being said, the ... I own a 1995 Nissan Altima ans just about a week ago my cruise control went out. The cruise control light, I noticed, was flickering for a few months and now it doesn't work at all. Could it be my fuse.
It's a little late now for car4dell, but for anyone else ... The 94 and 95 Altimas (at least) have little rubber buttons on the brake and clutch pedals. After about 10 years they are brittle enough to break up and fall off. You'll see litlle crumbs of it under the driver's feet. The effect of the clutch button is to prevent starting the car. The effect of the brake button ... Read More
Those stories about Honda's are just that - stories. The new Altima is excellent and will last you 40 years. Remember that since 1995 we've made a lot of progress in the world. if you don't think Honda's require a lot of maintenance, just watch the service department at a major Honda dealership... many sick cars go there, and many of them don't make it past 100,000 miles.
I have patiently read the previous 260 posts as well as other posts on the internet in various forums and suffice it to say, it can be very depressing owning one of these cars. I only found these threads after my own daughter experienced an issue with her car that was exhaust related. She purchased her 2002 Altima back in March of 2008 with 112,000 miles on it. She researched the ... Read More
I got a matching quote from 2 different dealers Nissan dealers in Manhattan and Brooklyn for a new lease. The car is a 3.5 SE 4 door with the premium package (Xenon HID's, leather, bluetooth, Bose, 6 cd/mp3 changer, spoiler, fog's, sun-roof, etc...). Fully loaded except Navi since I don't need it. The lease is $1995 down, plus dealer fees and taxes (about $2,500 total). This is a 24 month lease ... Read More
I have a 95 altima and the brake lights won't shut off. the brake relay switch is working fine, so is there something i am overlooking?
I have had 2 Altimas in the past. The first one, a 1996 model was absolutely trouble free. It got involved in an accident this year but I loved it so much, that I ended up buying a 1995 Altima SE. This one however, had its share of issues. But the main (only) reason for those issues was the extremely poor way in which the owner had handled the vehicle. I ... Read More
All Nissan Altima models since 1993 have timing chains ... For infrmation , from 1989 to 2004 only models with the 3.0 or 3.3 liter V6 ( Frontier , Pathfinder , Xterra , Quest , 300ZX , some Maxima) had timimng belts ... all other car models have had timing chains since 1995 ... since 2005 , all Nissan models have timimg chains ...
Hi all, A newbie here. I am in the market for a new car with the intention of keeping it for long term use (thinking at least 10 years). I am very interested in the Altima 2.5s CVT sedan, but wife is a little worried about long-term reliability of Nissan cars. A little bit of history: A few years ago I bought a used Nissa Altima 1995. Really like how the ... Read More
I would have considered the accord, if it looked like that 11 year old model. Could not get past the looks of the current one...then there was the price, too. Got my 4 cyl Mazda6 (version comparable to Accord SE) for $16K...I think that would put me in Civic territory, rather than Accord. I actually like the even older, pre-1995 Taurus looks better than the one you posted.
- 1995 Nissan Altima 4cyl - Check engine light did not display - Suspect noise comming from valves - Ran compression test as first stage diagnosis. Camshaft Position Sensor was disconnected from distributor. - All cylinders read between 180-190 psi - Re-installed plugs and Camshaft position sensor to distributor (the connector was very brittle and a few small plastic pieces broke but a solid conncetion was made) - Started car: check ... Hey, don't make any dumb decisions. My mom just bought a Altima 3.5 SL. She traded down from a 1995 Legend, just time to get a new car, and she didn't have the money to get another Acura. But anyways, it's the worst mistake shesmade since getting engaged to my dad. The car was nice at first. But not soon as she got it, all 2005-2006 Altima's were recalled for engine ... Read More
Congratulations on your purchase. We owned a 1995 Nissan Maxima, which was a very good car. You should be very happy with the Nissan. Hope all goes well with your Pilot. I normally post on the Accord, Pilot, and Camry/Avalon threads. (I do like the Avalon's style better than the new Camry, but it appears that a majority of most posters are negative on the Avy). I know the thread is ... Read More
the problem with that theory is this... Some people have had bad experiences with GM, Ford, VW and other companies in the past. True, some have had bad experiences with Honda and Toyota as well...but for years, particularly during the 1970's and 1980's, folks got so disgusted with GM and Ford that they turned to Honda, Nissan and Toyota and have not looked back.It will be TOUGH for GM and Ford ... i have 1995 nissan altima. recently it just wont start. There is gas in the car and i getting spark. it seem like the gas is not goint to the cylinders. i have check the fuse for the injector and they are okay. what could be the problem why the car wont start?
Remove the oil pressure sending unit and install a mechanical pressure guage to verify oil pressure.
The car has no oil pressure. We changed the oil filter & still has no oil pressure. What could the problem be? The car runs just has no oil pressure. Help!!
I had a nissan altima 1997 and I was having the same problem. For me it was the air flow meter. My car would stay in idle and the rpm would stay between 1 and 2. Is this happening to you? By the way the diagnostics will not pick up the problem, they found mine by running it on the emissions machine.
Hi Everyone, I had recently a problem with my Nissan Altima SE 1995 /automatic/- the alternator light and Brakes light at the dashboard from time to time were flashing / especially evenings, when many consumers of electricity were used - A/C, wipers, lights, blower fan / and failed to go off. Did anyone had the problem like that? Did he/she find a solution for that? Thank you very much for your ... Read More
I bought a 1995 Nissan Altima with 138K miles on it. Its an Automatic transmission. The engine starter is going bad. I had got the brushes of the starter freed. But that is just a temporary solution. Is rebuilding the starter a good idea or just getting a new one would be the best bet. Also how much do u think it should cost. THanks
Howdy, I've had the same problem. It turned out that after the engine heats up and gets significantly hot, the distributor ends up getting warm as well. Well, to save you the bore of the engineering thremodynamics behind it, as an element heats up, the resistance increases, thus creating an everso increasingly difficult route for the current to flow into each of the spark plugs. You may eliminate some of the ... Read More
hi mashmad and someone knows it: I got the same problem with my nissan altima 1995, and the garage diagonized and told me the exact same problem as yours, they want to charge me $750 for that, since I think it is too much and decide to do by myself. could you please give me some suggestion how to do it, looks not hard. some suggestion like, where to buy distributor, ... Hi. I had a light accident a few years ago, when some car cut me while turining left. Since that moment, although the dealer says that the car has been "fixed", I have a recurrent problem with the air-bag light - for no reason whatsoever, from time to time (every month, I'd say) it goes on (blinking). It's most annoying, and the only solution has been to go to the dealer ... Read More

Is there anyway to determine from the VIN number what month an Altima was produced? Supposedly the post march 1995 Nissan Altima's are not equipped with the Mike Tyson Airbag System.
A 1995 Nissan Altima GXE I have changed an O2 sensor not too long ago (7-8 Mo) at nissan dealership...by the way they suck!
I have a 1995 Nissan Altima that I'm having serious problems with. If I start the car in park, I can't press the button down to shift out of park. Hi, I have 1995 Nissan Altima GXE, that started a problem. When standing idle or slowing down, I see the rpm goes up and down and then goes to zero and the car stalls. I have checked the car with couple of mechanics. We have a 1995 Altima SE 5 speed that we bought new. It currently has only 51,000 miles of use. I know of another another person whose Altima of the same year has over 130,000. I believe that the engines are capable of easily going over 200,000 mile with proper care and feeding. I would be more concerned with the peripheral equipment. The only major complaints I have with my Altima ... Read More
So what that C&D ranked the Accord first and the Altima third? Drive the cars yourself. I used to take C&D's reviews like it was the bible, but back in 1996, one drive of the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Maxima made me realize that the Maxima was the best car out of the three. My bro was shopping at the time and he bought the Max. C&D in 1995 ... Read More

you guys are right about Honda, the new Civic is not impressive...just like the '97 Camry was unimpressive. That's because in both cases, cutting production costs was the major goal. Nissan did the same thing on the Maxima and the Altima in 1995 and 1997. Anyway, it looks like Nissan is not going to make the same mistake with the 2002 Altima.
